Finally gave in to the curiosity and test drove a ‘24 XLT with the 2.7L.

All in all, seems like it addresses my gripes with my 2019 while somehow also feeling the same. While I’d enjoy a longer bed option, the 2024 certainly felt more stable than the 2019 as it drove. Going through curves it felt confident and the weight of it felt substantial enough to make it feel predictable in some way.

I really expected the 2.7L to be peppier. Especially if there’s a cam phaser risk associated with them then I’d want a performance tradeoff. I didn’t try sport mode tho.

Maybe it’s because it was new, but the ‘24 did feel better built. Something about it just felt more solid. Almost the feeling I get in my wife’s 4Runner.

One perk of the 2.7L is it didn’t sound like an angry sewing machine. Just sounded proper!

In the end I told my wife it seemed like my 2019 but 5% better in nearly every way. I’m not sure 5% is enough to make it worth the new loan tho.

odd note: I went to Ranger6g to read up on stuff before going to the dealer. That crew is a bunch of cranky hoes. Everyone seems like they’re itching for a forum fight, and any request for info is met with a rude “Google it yourself” response. What a cold, sad place.

I haven't tried a new '24 yet and doubt I will. Besides the Raptor I wouldn't get another Ranger unless they came out with a good hybrid but it would have to be really good and not $60K. My needs for a truck are dwindling down and will more so after we move later this spring. I've been eyeing the Subaru Outbacks (I'm liking them more and more) and a couple other crossovers which would be more than enough for my needs now.

As far as 6G goes most wouldn't last a day over here. lol :lipssealed:

A local dealer has an XLT in stock with the 2.7.

I thought about going to take a look at it today, but the more I read about it the more it seems to be "meh" as far as an upgrade.

I mean, my truck is 5 years old and just crossed 33k miles.

It's on its last legs for sure.

If I did trade it would be for a Raptor, but right now you can still only get the 2024 model and almost every dealer is tacking a "Market Adjustment" on them.

No thanks. I'll adjust my desire for it instead.

hard to argue with a Subaru if it fits your use case! C’mon man, you can make a WRX work!

A lot easier to adjust your desire than your wallet. Well… a lot cheaper to adjust it, at least lol.

I think the 2024 is a really nice offering, but what I really want is better handling and some LED headlights (I swear these halogens on my ‘19 XLT are getting worse). Some eibachs will run me about $1300, and some fancy morimotos or alpharex lights for $1400. That’s a helluva lot cheaper than a $45k truck. I told the salesman and his manager that and they understood. It’s tough to buy a vehicle when you love the vehicle you have and it’s running great.

I'm sure I could and it'd be fun but I'd get into a whole lotta trouble driving it. lol

I do have a 10/100K ESP on mine so I'm in no rush to move on from it and I really do love the truck. I've always been one who likes to have a back up plan in line and the I've always liked the Subarus. I have a few friends who love theirs and have pwned several with little to no problems.

If I didn't have use for a bed on a regular basis, I'd definitely consider a Subaru. My daughter has had 2 now and she loves them - and they can go pretty much all the places I go with my truck.

I still say mine has a feature that no '24 or 6G can compete with. My truck is paid off - it will take a lot for me to trade at this point. While it isn't perfect, I still love this truck and it has done EVERYTHING I've asked of it and more.

With that said - to each his own - we all have different wants and needs.....

I'm waiting to see the new Baja Wilderness that's supposed to be out this summer. Basically a chopped Outback. I love the AWD and and cvt in my wife's forester. Better handling then my Ranger in the snow and never have to worry about road conditions changing.

as someone who took the plunge, do you care to share your thoughts process, and how things have gone since picking it up? I’d be interested to hear that!
Congrats on that ‘24!
$35,000 OTD, Drives like a Cadillac and does well with my muddy road. The rear locker works well. as for other details, you would have to ask my wife.☺
by the way, 6G forum is crap …

I just did a lot of upgrades to my '22 FX4. A whole lot cheaper than a new truck and it is totally transformed. FPP Tuner, Eibachs and 265/70R17 Continental Terrain Contact A/T's and it runs, rides and handles great. Not a fan of all the Big Brother stuff that is going into the new vehicles so I plan to keep this a long time. Easier to do, 5 years into retirement as there are no commuting miles racking up. :) Just a lot of trips to the doctors office. "Golden Years!". HA!!!!

I upgraded too from a 5g to 6g.

I still drive a 5g for work but my personal vehicle is a 6g.

The LED headlights and the interior is the biggest changes. They are both good with the 6g having the edge for sure.

I found my post on 6g, here are most of the differences that I noticed between the 2…

I ordered in April picked up in late August from Granger Motors.

I ordered the cheapest Ranger you can get and very happy. $34,928 OTD

I had a 5g Ranger and have a 5g Ranger work truck. I thought they would be pretty similar which they are but more refined. The ride is much smoother. It sits up higher too.

Things I noticed,
Did you know the fog lights turn on when turning? Turn right and the right light comes on, turn left and the left comes on.
Auto high beam. They don’t fade like the bronco though, they are off then on
Active grill shutters.
Lane keep assist (I have a Toyota and the ford system gives you more room to bounce back and forth)
I saw in videos no mechanical fan so happy to see electric fans, there’s 2.
LED plate lights.
Weather stripping around hood and air box.
Max payload 1815
6 tie downs
Exhaust is different looks slightly bigger at exist I’ll have to measure both.
Rear U joint is CV style like the bronco
Aluminum control arms again like bronco
Seems more responsive at tip in
No Sport mode at the shifter, have to press mode button 3 times. (Liked 5g better)
But in sport mode you can see what gear you are in by pressing + on shifter couldn’t do that on 5g in sport.
10R60 shifts great
Key is cut different on blade, more of a river going down the center
Comes with a trim ring on steering column!
Seats hold you in better, hard to put a finger on it but they feel great!

Overall the truck is great, best in the midsized market, the 10 speed was and still is what pushes this truck to #1.

I was thinking about looking at the Raptor until I saw the window sticker and also got a close look at it, they are not that great as far as I could see and not worth that much money! I walked across the street from Ford to Chevy and looked at the Colorado ZR2 and found that if I spent that kind of money, it would not be for a Raptor but the ZR2 not only is it a better-looking truck, but it has things you cannot get on a Ford! I am not a person that is sold on one brand but want the most for my money and it would be the ZR2.
