Ok, just saw two Raptors at Sunset Ford in STL. A blue one and a gray one. Neither were spoken for at the time. I took a close look at the blue one and it is indeed badass. Same color as my 22 as well.
Sat in it, talked to the salesman, started it...
Salesperson started talking really favorable numbers on mine for trade in value. Offered a test drive.
Then the problem: 5k over sticker dealer markup.
Laughed at the guy, turned off the truck and drove away. I'm bummed. I could actually afford the damn thing nowadays but I refuse to pay over sticker.
I know some may pay it just to have one and I do understand supply/demand but I just won't do it. I will say that sitting in that machine and pressing the start button as it came alive was incredibly arousing.
Thought I would share.
Anyone in the STL who is interested, go to Sunset Ford. They are only getting those two for the foreseeable future.

Good for you and I would've done the same. While they're nice and I really wanted one (and had my name in on 2 different lists) I'm now glad I didn't get one. After reading the couple reviews here from those that test drove them it doesn't sound all that impressive for the money. Sure the interior is nicer and a few other cool tech gadgets (I'm still not sold on these iPad looking center screens) but the engine doesn't seem all that impressive to a tuned 2.3. At least not over msrp impressive.

Besides, if you have a loaded Tremor or have built your Ranger to replicate one you're already 80%+ of the way there besides the bragging rights saying "I have a Raptor". They're just not that practical and most will never use them to their full effect but I guess one can say the same with a $100K Vette. I'm not saying it's a bad decision for anyone who buys one, just for me right now it wouldn't be a good one. Now 20 years ago the dumb side of my brain would've won out and I'd most likely have one but this thing called logic has set in now. lol

Good thing you didn't buy that. Hood is crooked on the passenger side, I think.
Obviously a lemon and it's gonna spend half it's life in the shop.
Good call! ?

Nice, you'll find one at MSRP eventually. I really enjoy mine and only got it because I found MSRP. I would be waiting like you if I didn't find it. I refuse to pay over MSRP. It's worth it when you eventually get one. Suspension is so sick and really fun I sport. Also, exhaust just puts a smile on in Baja. I really thought I wouldn't like much but it's pure enjoyment.

But you still test drove the hell out of it, right ?
No, I didn't test drive it. The salesman and I got as far as sitting in it with it running for about two minutes when the subject of 5k over sticker came up and I immediately stopped everything and left. I was so excited when I first looked at it that I didn't look at all the stickers on it. Just the main factory window sticker and it did not show any dealer markup or "dealer installed options". I looked at the bottom line on the factory sticker and it was $57,200 I think.

I wanted to drive it. I was also afraid, even before the salesman mentioned the markup, that driving it would probably seriously impact my financial decisions I might have made that day, lol.

Had I showed up at the house in that thing I'm not sure how happy my wife would have been because she wants a new Bronco and I just got my Ranger less than two years ago. I did have a full disclosure discussion with her about what I was up to that morning though. She knows how much I love my truck and just can't understand why I would even consider getting a new one, considering how happy I am with Blue Dream.

I didn't have vehicle shopping on my list of things to do yesterday, I had an appointment that morning and some errands to run and I just happened to drive by the dealership when I saw the Raptor sitting out there and I absolutely had to stop and check it out.

That's the spirit and I love that idea. Unfortunately, as everyone knows, that kind of shit makes the stealerships laugh these days.

I agree with your sentiment though. Depending on which way I go to or come home from the office, I drive by that dealer probably 3 times a week, sometimes both ways. I'll report in after a few days and post my findings about those trucks. My money is on them being gone by tomorrow though, if they're not gone already. We shall see. Sunset Ford is at the crossroads of several affluent neighborhoods so there's no shortage of people who have the means to indulge.

Btw, they had several new regular Rangers in various trim and package configurations. Probably about six of them. Tons of Mavericks, Broncos and a few cool Mustangs too. Seem as though the rarity of some of this stuff is starting to calm down.

Granted its a halo model but I have never paid full msrp. I did get 5k of my current truck, guess it will have to do for now. I saw a 2024 RR on the street a few days ago it looked amazing.

I hear what you're saying but that's one way they (dealers) get people to impulse buy. Even when you're not really out looking and just out for a test drive something can peak your interest. Next thing you know you're signing papers! o_O

When the Bronco fist came out and I put my name on the list it was for a Badlands with the mid package. I didn't think I needed the High package which gave you a bunch of other stuff along with the larger center screen. Low and behold we were sent an invitation to test them up in AZ on an outdoor off road course and of course it was one with the high package. Damn if I didn't go straight home and change my order because of it! :curse: Unfortunately (or fortunately now) Ford messed this whole launch up and I never got mine before they cancelled out all the original orders but even I (who's generally very good at sticking to my guns) can get easily persuaded in the moment. That's why I stay far away from these dealerships now because I know one might follow me home. ?

It takes a lot of discipline I guess ?, but the art of total bullshit can be quite rewarding at times ... if done properly...
