I'd be shocked if it wasn't. Just dropped her off. Apparently they've got two 'guys' that diagnose stuff. My first trip to a Ford Service place.

A drivability guy that sounds like a general service specialist. Seems like he looks at all kinds of stuff from tires, wheels, fluids, etc. to try and find what's going on. Apparently he's running anywhere from a day to two on fixes if he recognizes and fixes it. That would be awesome ? ?

If he doesn't find it or finds it but it's something specialized like the trans or it's a differential that's tearing itself up and needs to be rebuilt there's some specialist dude that does that. Sounds like there's only one ? Hire more man, that dude must be making bank. He's running more like 3 weeks ????

Here's hoping for an easy fix ?

Of course they were too busy despite my pushing for a drive with a tech or advisor. I gave them copious notes on how to induce it. I also said I'm on vacation this week so if drivability man couldn't find it, call me and I'll stop by and show them ?
I gotta know when you called to make an appointment?

when I took mine in for trans and other noises it was almost a month from when I made the appointment until they could get it in . . . .

also, I have no input on the noise, but feel your pain on the warranty at ~3.6k miles. I had mine back at the dealer at ~350 miles for 2 different warranty issues . . .

Called Saturday, used the automated prompts for the appointment, dropped off this morning. Maybe timing, maybe different dealership.

PM me and I'll tell you which one I took it to if I recall you're up North of me?

Thanks man, hopefully it's something simple and stupid
My money is on an issue between the steering wheel and drivers seat.

Called for an update today. Allegedly it's on a test drive, I won't tell you the rest of what she said ?

Still shows sitting on their lot via the app. Maybe they moved it inside since the last update or disabled that when they started working on it. I suppose I could see them doing that. The app actually had a weird outage for a bit the other day ?

Supposedly more updates to follow later today. ??‍♂

Alright, update.

The timing is dubious considering I called today asking for an update, but , they took it out and drove it around. After saying it already was, when it was still sitting, whatever.

Guy who drove it called and asked me about shifting problems. I've had none. However, I also basically parked it and made the appointment after this started.

Other than running around a bit trying a few suggestions from you fine gents and verifying if they did or didn't fix the issue like switching off traction control, that sort of stuff, I hadn't really driven it once this started.

He said the whining noise I'm describing is also, when he's driving, accompanied by some hesitation in the trans, and that it then slams into gear.

He believes this to be a transmission issue... at freaking 3665 miles. Un-freakin-real.

He's going to consult the trans specialist and get back to me ??‍♂

ETA for @Msfitoy can you have -91335mi countdown on trans issues? Is this possible?

I've only seen positive numbered countdowns posted here I was led to believe I was safe till 95k. I feel misled! I didn't make 9500

I know you hate it but be thankful you’re still in warranty.. otherwise it would cost you handsomely.. once completed just put it behind you and move on.

Till 7200mi? ?

I'm interested in more details. Maybe once the trans guy gets involved. Bad valve body here or what? Build date on mine was 5/23... so we should have the new CDF drum. What the hell went wrong in the first 4000mi, that blows my mind, not to mention my confidence in the reliability.

We'll see how long this takes. Absolute nonsense a brand new vehicle is having a major mechanical issue before the first oil change.

I'm still hopeful it's a bad part like a faulty valve body and the overall trans is good but if they start talking about dropping and replacing the whole thing that's just wild to me. The cost, time, labor, not to mention the downtime without the truck to accomplish all that? On something brand new. My fingers are crossed for a part swap.

I wonder if they're avoiding a recall on something here with these swaps. I have a 2012 grand Cherokee too. That had a really for a left side engine head because they had bad castings from their Mexico plant and one of the valves would eventually wear part of the head down and start throwing a check engine light. It was a bad run of heads and they did a recall on it.

Makes me wonder if it's something similar here and why they're swapping out entire trans units, huge expense of time and money and labor, but doing it as they come in rather than calling it a recall. I think Ford is already at #1 for that, right?

the entire swap is so the factory engineers can do a root cause analysis of the failure. You might be contributing more than you think.. still it sucks to be in your position.. I truly hope your issue is resolved in a timely manner.

Is that cost effective for them? Certainly not something I'd considered.

Carts before the horse anyway, we'll see what they say. Guy just didn't sound real optimistic on the phone. He was asking about what kind of stuff I'd noticed driving it around and I said honestly once it started, aside from driving it to the dealership, I probably hadn't driven it more than about 2-3 miles so I didn't have much road time since it started.

Then I went on to say that was because I was trying to avoid doing MORE damage by driving it while something was wrong and turning this into a bigger deal.

Kinda got a "yeah this usually winds up being a replacement if it's what it seems like it is" sort of response. I'm paraphrasing not trying to get the poor guy in any trouble he seemed pretty squared away. He noticed the hesitation, I hadn't. He may have also driven it around a bit more and seen this more than a time or two.

Just frustrating buying a new truck, and then you're dealing with this so early ? the 10/175k ESP is already looking like it was a good decision.

Update 7/16

Picked it up today, confirmed by the transmission Jedi, it needs a replacement ? covered under warranty. Parts being ordered. They're backlogged by a good bit so they're releasing the Yeti back to me since it's still drivable.

They're going to ring me when they've got everything ready and the queue is ready for me and should be about a 3 day surgery for the new unit.

Crazy, might be a record on this board, no? Can anyone beat 3655mi for a new 10r80?
