Older photo but traded my Tremor yesterday to my local Jeep dealer. I was waiting for the 2.7 V6 in the new gen but once Jeep started clearing out the diesel gladiators, $49k for a diesel Rubicon gladiator was too tempting. My Ranger was paid off next Jan so trade in value was pretty good and ended up almost having the same payment as the Ranger but I got diesel this time and Jeep offered a 5 yr, 100k powertrain warranty (I've owned diesel BMW X5 back in the day and it was my fav SUV of all time).

Already test drove the new gen Tacoma and it's meh...rear seats are still a turd, new body style is fugly (unless ya go higher TRD or TrailHunter trims) and all my local dealers are charging $50k+ for a OR trim. And gas mileage is still crappy (as it was with the last gen).

If I didn't want a diesel drive train, I'd have certainty waited for the new V6 Ranger. I think this time around, the new gen Ranger offers the best buck for the money with decent gas milege, rear seats and tech. I wouldn't touch any GM products after owning the Canyon and had nothing but issues and corporate GM is totally useless.

I enjoyed my Tremor a lot and it took me to all my camping/fishing holes without missing a beat. No major issues to this day. But rear seats were getting too small (or my high schoolers suddenly growing taller!) and gas milege was around 20mpg (still better than most mid size trucks!).

Forum helped me a lot and while I was tempted for various mods, the stock Tremor trim is more than practical enough for my needs so I just rolled with it.

If those in the market for a mid size truck, just wait out the 2.7L V6 in the next gen ranger. It's a trusted workhorse from Ford and probably better reliability than the turbo engines thats the current trend.

And some beautiful rigs around here :)!!

Gladiator is one I'm considering when I replace the ranger.
Gas/manual transmission.

So, what’s the appeal of a diesel engine in 2024? The diesel option is usually considerably more expensive. They get a little better mileage, but diesel costs more and is harder to find these days (at least where I live). Modern turbo engines have also greatly reduced the torque gap that used to exist between gas and diesel engines. Other than nostalgia, it seems hard to make the case for diesel today, which is probably why you don’t see the option much anymore.

If I had stayed in Florida I would have loved a diesel truck. In my experience, diesel was much easier to find during the madness of Hurricanes... For that reason alone, I wanted a diesel truck.

IIf there was a diesel hybrid option, Jesus I would sell my left nut for that.

So in USA, "diesel" is now a dirty word as a lot of politics is involved. For the rest of the world, diesel is still readily available in 2024. In Aussie/Pacific markets, new gen Ranger still has diesel option. So does a lot of '24 diesel offerings from Ford/Toyota but then those markets don't have emissions tied to it. I'm a Pacific Islander living in CA and grew up with diesel trucks in my family :). I've also driven turbo diesel Ranger Raptor in Fiji (my uncle owns one and runs a construction family and most of this trucks are diesel (Hilux and Ranger..all with diesel).

In CA, the price of gas is almost the same as diesel (but diesel gets ya far better milege). Then turbo engines are still new ...it's still a small engine with compression but companies are using turbo to squeeze more HP out of it. Long term reliability is yet to be determined and hence I was waiting for the 2.7 V6 from Ford later this year in the Ranger.

But then I prefer diesel. I owned a BMW X5 diesel back in the day and it was my fav suv ....28mpg and a single tank of diesel would give me 500+ miles. Ran into some emission issues later past 80k but extended warranty covered it.

Jeep is now giving 5 yr/100k power train warranty on the diesel engines which is good enough for me..I work from home now so we use my wife's IX EV for short/in-town runs and the Gladiator for long runs (and my camping/fishing trips) and work on my rental property. What I love (over my Ranger) is rear seats are the BEST in the mid size truck segment and so far, the diesel milege has been stellar (engine still breaking in so it will improve over time).

But ya can't go wrong with the new Ranger (if ya don't like diesel). If I didn't get this, I was gonna get the 2.7V6 coming out later this year !

And here's my oil burner...Jeep is clearing out '23 inventory and doing 15% off (and additional dealer discounts). I got this for $49k plus taxes (almost same price as new gen Tacoma OR or Lariat Ranger) and JeepWave program 3 free diesel oil changes (which is pretty much all the maintence needed on these for the 1st 20k!).
