Do you need that many presets Steve? Five seems like a lot. ?

I bet when you unfold that map, it’s smaller than that head unit. ?
At my age, 5 is about all I can remember at a time. Plus, 5 buttons and 5 digits on my right hand, so it's easy to keep track.
Paper map forces you to pull off road and come to a stop to navigate with it, unlike taking your eyes off the road for 10 minutes while you try to figure out what in the hell your trying to find on that head unit, all at 70 mph !!!!
Even with phone nav systems and nav system in the Ranger.....to this day, while traveling, I still carry a AAA Road Atlas with us, along with the freebie state maps available at state welcome areas !!!

Same here David - I use maybe two buttons on the left twice a year and I’m not sure if those buttons on the right are for presets or for dialing the phone.

?‍♂

We also have that new-fangled “tactile response climate control” that you can’t get if you order the tech package. ?

I will admit, nav systems come in handy when looking for a specific address, but for an area to area run, I like a good ole map.
Back in the 60's-80's when we traveled with the camper, we used the old Good Sam Book....the one that was as thick as a New York City phone book. Loved the point to point directions....."Go 3,7 miles down Main Street to the Shell Station, and go right. Go 4.2 miles to the big yellow silo, and take the first left after it, go 1/2 mile to the red barn, go left at the fork, and Bubba's Homestyle Campground will be on your right"
Honest...thats the way we got to some of these places !!!!

id love to say i dont need my gps and nav goodies... but it has helped me out a lot. im my defense - i can get home without it at least. but finding points ive marked on the computer and then driving to them is great. also asking it to find me the nearest rest stop after a bag of beaver nuggets from the beaver hut is really nice too. the screen is nice! but i wonder if it makes it tough to see the road at night?

I use nav apps, but I refuse to take a trip without my road atlas. Plus, its the National Park version with lots of extra info.

We have one also, and also one from the US Corps of Engineers.....it lists campgrounds that are free or just a few $$$ at locations in the US where they have done state projects over the years. Many of them right on rivers with great camping spots. Lot of them even have rv hook-ups and/or rest rooms with shower facilities.
If you like to camp off the beaten track, get one. Anywhere from 10-20 bucks on Amazon.

I forgot to mention...if you have a Senior Park Pass there is no fee for a Corps campground operated by the US Corps of Engineers.
But, some Corps parks are operated by some State Parks and the fee is usually 1/2 price with a Senior Pass.

Not to break up the conversation on maps and NAV, but I actually did something to my Ranger today. Got rid of the last of the chrome on my beautiful Lightening Blue Sport trim truck. Covered up the .ounting for the backup camera. Also added at least 10 HP by putting a TURBO badge in place of the long gone Ecoboost badge.

Gave Truck a spa day of sorts. Wash, vacuum, 303'd the inside, windows, and waxed with Maguires that I had leftover from some time ago.
Makes me sad to do this in a way because this kind of thing is when you find out all those blemishes aren't bugs after all...they're paint chips ?
Even so, she cleans up reasonably well.
