Just got my Ranger back from Ford. CDF Drum Sleeve slid out of place?!?

Thankfully they fixed it under warranty. I'm nervous that this will happen again though.

Has anyone had this issue? How does it even happen?

it happens by ford ang gm making a junky product and not supporting it. it will eventually happen again.

What's your build date? Saw a good video talking about the revision to the CDF drum. The earlier version allows some kind of ring seal to slip out of place (possibly what's being referenced, not sure there's really space for the drum itself to move much but I'm not tranny tech) and when that happens you get fluid leaks, heat issues, etc

The new part has a machined in lip to keep it from moving.

Now just take care of your valve body with frequent fluid changes.

Yeah it was the first time. I'm hoping it doesn't happen again.

I'm going to call Ford tomorrow & see if they installed the new 'improved' CDF Drum, or the old style.

There is a 10R80 thread here on the forum (of many) that shows the paperwork from the dealer with the updated part # they install and if there disassembling your trans they will install the updated design part, some members are reporting that in certain cases they do a software update first as required by Ford then if you still have issues they move on to the big job.

10,000 D&F
+20,000 D&F
+30,000 D&F + Filter
+30,000 D&F
+30,000 D&F + Filter (So filter every 60k, Drain and fill every 30k once past the initial)

Personally, my schedule is much more aggressive, but the above would be the maximum I would do.

The drum was updated for 2023 or in 2023 so if it was a recent repair/rebuild it should be good to go.

How easy is it to do a fluid change in the rangers? Is it possible on a driveway?

Drain and fill.

Before I bought a PPE pan, my preferred method was just to suck the fluid out through the dipstick hole. Depending on what you use, you can expect anywhere between 4-6 qts out of it, which is enough (IE, better than not doing a change).

I'm a fairly big dude at 265# and I can wiggle my ass under there to do it. Even easier if you drive up on to some boards/ramps.
