Yeah, I am not interested in a bunch of whooshing noises like I'm driving Paul Walker's car in F & F!

Interestingly, though, I get a mild whooshing noise from my setup with the snorkel on it, more reminiscent of the Aussie turbo diesel "utes" but without the diesel clatter to back it up.

It's the go fast bits diverter valve upgrade kit. Upgrades the valve and springs from the factory components to their stuff.

Comes with a machined aluminum body, new springs, new brass piston. The factory piston is plastic and feels pretty chincy.

According to them the way the factory unit is set up it's only open or shut. With theirs the boost pressure can open/close the valve progressively as needed so in theory there's less lag if you let off the pedal when accelerating and then need to get back on it again... because you haven't necessarily closed it completely, depending on your throttle input.

Seems like a good upgrade for relatively low cost and hassle.

So this sounds like it's not only a higher quality piece but also a more efficient one as well.

Will this be good for a fully-stock engine with no tune?

Verrrrrry interesting !!!! Looks like it would provide a real benefit when towing a heavy trailer as your constantly having to very throttle in traffic. Seems, via the info that it would allow smoother response, going up/down grades, ect.
Now I know what my Valentines present to my better half will be !!!
Throw a rose on top of the box, and I'll be good to go !!!

That's what mine is. I think the engine has plenty of ass from the factory. I'm just making little changes as I go because I enjoy tinkering and making little changes to keep things running well ... and maybe a tiny bit better

This should make the turbo work a little less as hard because it's not diverting 100% of the boost pressure when you let off the throttle, say partially, as you go around a hairpin on a mountain pass towing or having a good time bombing up the mountain

As you ease off with the factory valve, it's diverting all the pressure and when you straighten out and press down again there's likely some hesitation or lag as the turbo spools up and rebuilds the boost pressure it just cut

If you believe their hype, the GFB parts allow the diverter to cut only the pressure it has to in order to not back pressure the turbo as you ease off the accelerator, maybe that's 10% maybe it's 60% but it's likely not 100%...

Then when you start pressing down again you've already got 90% or 40% or whatever of your boost pressure on tap and the turbo is doing less work getting back to maximum

So the marketing pitch goes but the tuner folks on YouTube seem to like them. I think I'm going to try and take a trip with it to Estes or something next week and get another opportunity to give it a whirl

But your words here are kind of the way I think too. If it helps some, no matter how little, it's still a positive thing to do. MY FJ40 has 310K miles on it and I've driven it since 1975 (although very little in the last 10 years) and we had a Corolla with 360K on it, so I'd like the Ranger to stick around too. =)

It sounds like it would be helpful for all your trailer towing, if it really does smooth out the acceleration.

I'll report back once I do it, which might be in the spring.

If it does work, this could be you next summer!

As long as boost doesn't spike, it appears to be a good idea. Full throttle then letting off causes the turbo pressure to spike unless you have a blow off valve - something most all of us know. I am curious how the spike is handled, how much, if any, the spike is increased. Spikes are not healthy for turbo cars.
