No problems in 3 years, first issue yesterday, shifted to Drive & nothing. Back to Park & Drive 2 times then heard what sounded like gears spinning and hard clunk. Behaved normal the rest of the day. Hoping it's just a fluke - gave it a good underneath pressure washing last weekend & not drove it since. Really glad I bought extended warranty when I bought the truck.. time will tell

I wonder how much it would cost to replace the cdf drum to the new design and a valve body cleaning.

The parts are relatively cheap. If you go that far into it, replace the wear parts as well. It will not be much more of an expense as they must be removed to get to the CDF drum. And upgrade the solenoids to ones that do not attract ferrous metals. There are aftermarket replacements already in production.

It appears to me Ford designs initially err on the cheap side, and then over time they correct the problems they encounter one by one until they perfect the design. By then a new design replaces the old now reliable product and the cycle repeats itself.

They appear to be using their customer base as a validation phase in product development. Bad for the customer, and sooner or later bad for Ford profitability.

that stinks on fords part but i am not surprised. Part of my wanting a 5g truck was my bad assumption that the issues would have been ironed out being a "old" new truck as the over seas version has been out a long time. I was wrong. different engine and different transmission etc.

My thoughts were similar when I purchased my 2020. I was wrong.

My 2019 Ranger's transmission started acting up at about 52k miles. A lot of 2-5 second lagging between 1/2 and 2/3shifts, some slipping followed by "CLUNK" shifts, and other funky shifts at speed once in a while. The problems mostly happened before the transmission reached operating temperature and it only threw a code once (I forget what it was).

Took it in to the dealership two days ago and got a call today that it is ready to go. They said they replaced the transmission valve body and reprogrammed the transmission. I plan to pick it up tomorrow and hopefully it is good to go.

This is my first real issue with the truck, and I just wanted to share in case other experience similar issues.
I started having exactly the same problem with my 2019, it only has 34K miles, took it to the dealer and they are replacing it at no cost, but they did not tell me if it was a recall.

Not a recall, but there is a TSB about it and you are still under the power train warranty.

Hi all. I am new to here. I live in Europe and have 2019 diesel Raptor with 10spd. Now at 70k km (43k miles) I have issues with trans. Sometimes trans slip out of gear and fall to limp mode. Diag say codes about solenoids.

In Europe is very bad support from dealers about transmissions, they just updated software and offer new trans for like 9k USD (25% of value whole truck).

I thing is will be good first step to change valve body, but trouble is, that I don´t know part number for my truck to order right part. I can manage transport from US.

Is there anyone to help?

Thank in advance.

Since you are in Europe, you have a different powertrain. We would not be able to have parts for you here. Maybe someone else can find a way to help?

Hrm, I thought someone here had been preaching something about trying to keep the valve bodies clean and working freely. ?

Is yours still doing ok?
I'm still good on the transmission front.

I seem to have a slight miss under light throttle, and have the sensor to fix as well as iridium plugs. Waiting for Nickel AntiSeize to arrive in a few days.

There seems to be so many preventative maintenance items that Ford should have addressed that keep me busy. Once I get on top of them all I hope to be OK, but in the back of my mind I wonder what I may have missed.

I have never had a vehicle that required this much upfront "fix its" to avoid catastrophic failures. Some would say just live with it, but if you do those issues are gonna bite you in the butt at the most inopportune time.

Anyway, time to change the diff gear oil, and the transfer case fluid, and I'll change the engine oil at the same time... oh and squirt a little lube in my Tom Wood's Driveshaft slip joint while I have it on the lift. That used to be about 3 hours work, but I expect ti will take 1/2 day.

On the very Bright Side of things, the Lubeguard Platinum cured 15K (out of a total 20K miles) miles of horrible transmission behaviors.

Jerking, hard shifts, lack of shifts, down shifts not releasing, etc. The last 400 miles have been transmission heaven. I still don't like the shift point programming, but the shifts have been smooth and consistent. And that for me is s BIG WIN!

Update:

Dealer had the main control overhauled, plastic pan replaced due to cracking, filter replaced, filled and test drive done to their satisfaction. Odometer in/out on the work order shows only 2km, so I wasn't ready to take that 'test drive' seriously.

Initial drive leaving the dealer was notably better shifting from 5-10, modulating quickly between gears on demand. Then I started to pick the behavior apart with my weekend driving. Regardless in drive or sport, 3rd gear flares on acceleration after the shift is done, happens every time. 7th will stick a lot, lagging uphill and needs some good throttle to kick down. random hard up/downshifts. I am aware skipping gears 2 and 4 are a normal behavior in pattern when accelerating, the issue is purely 3 and 7 and what they are doing.

Found these two youtube videos really helpful describing what the 10R80 is doing inside and out.

Driving:
Teardown:

Ill be pursuing full transmission swap after giving them all the details next visit, waiting on diff bearing parts anyway. Happy that I am still driveable.

Hopefully my last update:

At 48000km oil change, I complained again about the shifting (more noticeable in cold). Dealer honored their word, took it for a 45 minutre drive to have it shift funny on them, with no FORSCAN codes but a capture of what happened.

At 50000km, the dealer replaced the CDF drum, all clutch packs and more, and deemed it an 'overhaul' of the trans. I was shocked at how much further they took the work scope given the TSBs verbiage. Good on them.

Did about 400km driving towing a 4000lb travel trailer this weekend and it shifts very well. Downshift pattern under load was the smoothest I have ever seen. I have a little more faith that this will be a good fix.
