anyone of you guys experiencing issue on 4H? today i was using the 4H because its really cold and snow is a lot and i notice everytime i turning left or right when on certain speed more like 20-30 kmph it was like feel bumps on front and it also feels like the front tires are bumping into something?
its something there is something stuck on the tires feels like kind of when turning left and turning right and even when backing up on 4H..?
so what i did i immediately switch it to 2H and turn left and right again and i did not feel something like on 4H.. any idea?

Hey Jerome,

It sounds like you might be using 4WD on a hard surface. It’s only meant to be used on loose surfaces like sand, dirt, gravel, mud, snow, or ice. The surface under the tires has to be loose enough to give way or your front starts to bind or lock up.

You were right to move it back to 2H. ?

2H should be fine in most situations where the roads are clear, or mostly clear of any snow.

Agree with what the others said.

4h works by connecting the tires together at the same speed.

So if the ground is not slippery or loose and you try to turn you run into issues.

When turning the wheels don't want to spin the same since the distance covered is different. So bybusing 4h or 4l in inappropriate conditions for them you get that rubbing sensation

This is why 4-Auto would be a great option on this truck. It is the best solution for most people, most of the time.
Yep, Ford dropped the ball massively on this. The new Colorado/Canyon trucks offer it in almost every configuration. Considering Ford has all the hardware and software available from the Bronco it’s a big miss. It’s currently cold as hell up here with dustings of snow making it very slippery. I just need to constantly switch from 2wd to 4wd and back based on roads and speed. It’s not the end of the world but it sure would have made the new Ranger way more appealing to me.

And yeah there’s nothing wrong with your truck, mine does the exact same thing.

Yes, these trucks need to be in Neutral to switch to 4L.

According to the Owner’s Manual, 4L provides power “with additional gearing for increased torque multiplication”. So, yeah, it jumps with that increased torque, especially on a solid, dry surface.

Wow. The 2024 doesn’t have 4A available? They made it Sasquatch only for Bronco too. That’s unfortunate. I don’t have 4A on my Bronco - but, I don’t really miss it. I also haven’t been in a situation where I’ve needed it. But, it’s easy enough to make the switch. If I feel slippage in bad weather or on the trail - foot off the gas and press the button (Bronco)/turn the dial (Ranger).

From a safety standpoint you’d think they’d make it standard equipment. But, I guess it’s not inexpensive. Especially to fix…

My wife's Jeep Liberty in 2002 had a 4 auto option that we'd use in intermittently slippery conditions. it was handy occasionally.

I haven't really needed it in the Ranger, but it would have been nice to have. The ABS and traction control systems in the truck do work pretty well, though, and this Ranger is a lot easier to drive in slippery conditions than my 98 Ranger was. That said, it was easier to have some stupid fun in slippery conditions in my 98 Ranger (MT RWD).

Drove home 97 miles last Saturday in a blizzard, in 4H all the way...interstate as well as country roads, no problem...but the roads were either all snow, plowed, unplowed or slush.
Boy do I miss getting out of the truck to lock the hubs?

What, you miss finding a place to pull over, get out in the snow and lock the hubs? Heresy, I say.
