Jeezaloo Doc, that was a close call.

You’re right about that tree. I was camping in Hawaii (Kahana Bay Beach Park) and pitched my tent under a big palm tree. The park attendant soon came by to let me know how a branch or coconut could quickly ruin my vacation. ?
Tru Dat !

@Doc your post about this was so nonchalant I had to read it a couple times to make sure you were talking about the present and not the past. Holy heck. Very happy you're posting with both hands.
Thanks !

Gee, I may need to get one soon at the rate my mice are chomping away! I keep spraying it with peppermint oil, but maybe that's just festive Christmas candy cane treats to them!

Looks nice! =)

Not technically in the mail, as I made my wife drive across town to pick this up from the store, but I am about to get HAM'd. I am working on a mounting solution, but I am really excited about this. I worked really hard for my license (I am a terrible test taker, and I past on the first try), so I am excited to get a good MT to play with. Plus, I get options for emergency comms when I am on the trails. GMRS, HAM, Garmin InReach.

Congratulations on your license. =)

I suck with tests and applaud you for doing so well. This sounds (no pun intended) like an awesome project.

I loved having a CB and 10 foot whip on my old FJ40 and always thought a HAM radio would be so practical and far more useful, but I never pursued it because of the license requirements.

Post lots of pics and share more of your experiences, it might just spur me on. =)

Good luck with it and I look forward to following your journey in this.

LOL, and you already got me interested enough to find out why it's called HAM:

RETIRED!
I got into HAM pretty heavily back in 2008
I had a mobile unit for a base station, a matching mobile unit in the Rubicon and a handheld unit. I had the mobile set up to act as a repeater for the handheld unit if it was ever necessary. I also had the mobile set to transmit APRS when I was out alone. That way my neighbor and fellow HAM operator could find me if I ever got lost.

I sold the Jeep in 2010 and then sold all of the HAM gear. I do keep my license active just in case I decide to get back into it again.

Risky spot in Florida, after the recent hurricane, a big branch off a pine tree fell on me while riding on my grasshopper mower..knocked me off the mower which ran over my right arm, Auto shut off stopped the blades from hitting me..broke off the oil filter and mount and broke some switches.. Just got lucky I guess…
I've got a cousin in Perry, which was hit hard, tons of old trees & branches down, but cleaned up by now...and 2 sisters in Old Town, near Fanning Springs, and they basically had nothing. But none had your experience, luckily @Doc ...I always wondered about those old trees, with the Spanish moss, & rot! It's where the owls hang out (or in).

Friday yet?
