I just find it hard to believe that there is such a demand for a taillight that does not go bad that often. Love my cheap STX even more. Just hope someone notice's there the cheap crap before they try to steal them.

Instead of security screws, why not just weld the tailgate shut?

I'll have to look tomorrow in the light, but I am wondering if there is a place on the tailgate to attach a ratchet strap, then attach to a tow hook. If the lock is popped, you can't lower the tailgate.

if that didn't work, then I guess some of gate latch type device would keep it shut in the event the lock is popped.

Or, is there some protective coating to put around the lock to make it harder or difficult to pop the lock?

How about just grinding the screw heads down? Can't be that difficult to use a drill and easy-out if necessary to replace the light module if needed.

I've decided that this week I'm going to take some JB Weld SteelStick, which is epoxy putty, and build up over the existing screws' washers and over the bolt head. That way I can give them a taper that will make it impossible to use a socket and very difficult to grab with pliers.

If I need to remove them in the future, I'll take a Dremel cutoff disc and cut a slot for a screw driver.

sooo found out from a buddy of mine sadly the hardway.... these stickers will also tell a thief you might have weapon in the vehicle so they will break in and see if you do. so not always the best idea either.

Seriously though why can't you just replace your stolen tail lights with the cheap STX ones? Error codes or something? They are $181 vs $942 on Fairway Ford.

And, as @Grumpaw has suggested in the past, any new screw needs a washer. I wonder if a big fender washer would stop them from just breaking the light off? Seems like that would reduce the value (I have no clue about fencing stolen stuff, just what I've learned from the Rockford Files!). =D
