Has anyone ever seen the following message on the Infotainment Screen: "Please turn ignition off or start your engine"? As of late my infotainment screen has this message posted after the truck was parked with ignition off for 1 hour or more!
unnamed.webp

Taking the truck to a dealer will once again result in having to leave the truck at the dealer for an entire day, where they will perform a diagnostics, and at the end of the day the message will be: "we could not find anything wrong"!

It could very well be the signs of a failing battery - your dealer can conduct a proper test and determine it easily - they may ask you to leave it overnight. Hopefully not.

This happened to me - replaced battery under warranty - ten months in.

I hope that’s all it is. Good luck.

How old is your battery? If it's about three years old this suggests it is wearing out.

Many of us use Forscan to make changes to our truck setup, and there is a way reset the battery management. That only buys you a month or so, and you need to shop far an AGM battery specific to your make (some are higher cranking/cold amps). Some forum members have moved off that format but it's not simple.

There are threads on the forum on what others have discovered and done to their Rangers, from changes in Forscan to disabling the Ford charging features (I can't advise this) to specific battery types/brands - I suppose a master list of those would be useful.

My initial thought was also a weak battery issue. I came to this conclusion when my engine stop feature, when stopped at a red light no longer worked. I checked the voltage output after overnight parking and it shows between 11.8 - 11.9 volt charge. Once the ignition is on and engine running, the voltage output from the battery is over 15 Volt! Don't know if that is normal and should in fact be this high.

That voltage is not unusually high. Your overnight drop is also a tell.

Your auto start/stop (ASS) not acting as it should is exactly what happens when your battery is failing. The BMS will not shut it off if your battery is weak - that’s just one of many things that will stop it but it is a real canary in a coal mine for a failing battery.

Battery time.

the more you know:

That's a really good explanation of how the system is integrated into everything.

I watched a video of his the other day for the first time - replacing rear tail lights on an f150... It seems like he is very knowledgeable about these trucks.

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!

From what I've read, the Ranger has a charging system with a mind of it's own. Apparently, you need to put high mileage on it at highway speeds to allow it to charge. And, even then, it's only a partial charge. My 2019 with under 20K miles was showing all the signs and giving me messages, so I replaced the battery. A month later, it was sending me messages again and the touch handles would only work for the driver door. When I get the message, I run it up the highway and run errands in it. That usually buys me another couple of months. :(
