Lots of reports surfacing about people having problems connecting the new iPhone 15 Pro to CarPlay using various USB A to C cables in different vehicle makes. Anyone here have that issue in their Ranger?

Well, that isn’t encouraging. The only place my iPhone X’s Lightning port works consistently is CarPlay in my Ranger. :(

I'll believe it if I see it for myself. My iPhone 15 Pro should be here in a week or two. My lightning XR has been working flawlessly in the Ranger all this time.

Apologies if this is from Captain Obvious' keyboard, but always look for MFI or Apple MFI Compatible on the charging cord packaging. These have a chip in the head that has to do with data transfer speed & accuarcy if I understand correctly. The $4.89 cords by checkout counter usually aren't MFI compatible, use for charging only.

According to other forums and news items, some even have trouble connecting in this situation with Apple cords and the Apple Lightning to C adapter.

But you already knew you were not getting out of this without spending a little more money right?

I always buy the MFI Certified cable. In my case the problem with my lightning port isn't the cable as even genuine Apple cables are intermittent. In my phone's case, the problem is the lightning connector on the phone. That is what is intermittent. I just am lucky that the connector on the cable I have in the truck always makes the connection.

Did you ever try cleaning out the lightning port on the phone? Mine collects lots of dust and lint. I use a plastic toothpick to clean it out to keep to connection solid.

I have and it used to work like a charm (I have wondered if my periodic cleaning of the lint might be at the core of my issues with that connector). Pocket lint would build up so much, it would be hard to snap in the connector (pretty much Levis most days) .

My problem is with the conductors in the connector in the phone. I have had it quoted $125 to get the connector replaced but I can charge the phone with induction, so the problem I have run into (including just charging reliably) through that port just doesn't rise to the "I need another $1000 phone" level. :)).

Apple had an IOS 17 update because it caused a problem with data transfer to and from other IPhones. So it looks to be an Apple problem not Sync 3. Apple is really good about updating things/issues with new iOS releases. Give Apple your feedback.

Apple has just offered on its website a a 3-foot USB-A to USB-C cable that might do the trick for CarPlay: “Belkin BOOST↑Charge Pro Flex USB-A to USB-C Cable (1m)”. I have one on order. There don’t seem to be many others like this on line. Doesn’t clearly specify that it can handle data and CarPlay as well as charge, but it is released for the iPhone 15 and the news report I learned about it from said they thought it was primarily of interest to car owners with CarPlay and a vehicle with a USB-A port. https://9to5mac.com/2023/10/04/iphone-15-usb-a-to-usb-c-cable/
We‘ll see.

Update: oh-oh, looks like it might not be MFi-certified. But the Belkin site says it can sync as well as charge. Fingers crossed.

I ordered a Belkin cable for my 14 from the Apple site. It does both, so hopefully yours will too.

I just received a package of Basesailor male A to female C adapters from Amazon. Works great for charging and CarPlay on my 2019 Ranger using the braided C to C cable that came with my iPhone 15 Pro. Simple cheap solution.

People really need to stop paying for inferior hardware with 5 year old technology that's just being implemented. I never understood overpaying for an inferior product... Then again there are Taco drivers everywhere.
