We typically call "Canadian bacon" "peameal bacon"; it's not quite the same as ham.

So Mcdonalds has been lying to me for , well , my whole damn life basicly ... are there Quarter Pounders or is it a metric burger ? The early thanksgiving has me considering duel citizenship ...

I can't speak to McD's coz I rarely eat fast food, and don't actually remember the last time I went to one, but I do know several people up here who have family/friends in the US, and will double-down on Thanksgiving; host them in October & be the guest in November.

It’s actually pork loin rolled in pea meal and cured/smoked like a ham or bacon, so…better than ham. Up here, it’s usually just called “Pea Meal Bacon”, not “American Bacon”.

And no, we don’t just laugh at you but we do wonder what’s up with American Cheese.

EDIT: I see Labalbe’s been replying too. ?

It is called the Quarter Pounder because One Hundred and Thirteen and a Half Gramer wouldn’t fit on the box.

We already have “duel” citizenship with Quebec  ? but having dual citizenship would be fine by us.

American cheese is a mild cheddar with all the taste homogenized out of it.

But don't let that discourage you, @NotBudule, just remember that a "duel" here is done on the ice with hockey sticks & a puck, not a Colt @ high noon ;)

You're not wrong. Back in my teens, I had a summer job at a deli in NC, and this one year one of my co-workers found out I wasn't "local" & had moved around a lot, so he started asking me if all of these things he'd heard about the world outside the US were true. Now, I give him full credit for asking, and not spouting them off like God's Own Truth (had that happen more than a few times), but man, I could have filled a phone book with all of the misconceptions he had.

I always take advantage of my dual citizenship (born in Quebec to an American dad) and eat heartily on both Thanksgivings!

Oh, who the hell am I fooling ... I eat heartily every chance I can! =D

I was handed this chart by a Canadian coworker once. Based on the chart they are probably called Quarter Pounders in Canada:

My personal favorite thing about the chart is that it sometimes says "imperial" or "metric", and sometimes says the actual units to use. This inconsistency seems to fit perfectly with the theme...

This is definitely the flowchart my brain uses - every single time. We started going metric in the 70s and the only thing I’m comfortable with is outdoor temperature in °C and km. ?

The interesting thing is that the originators of the Imperial system (British) converted to metric a long time ago and their flowchart looks nothing like this. The U.S. is still a strong holdout - except for the military.

This speaks to our relationship with the U.S., whether it’s through TV, Movies, News, Travel, Business, or Families.
