When placing my truck in drive, the truck is lagging going into drive and when it finally engages a loud thud happens, the truck jumps forward and it goes into gear.

This has happened both when the truck was cold and warmed up and only when going into drive, not reverse.

Has anyone else had this issue?

If there is a thread that already addresses this, please let me know. I have been searching all over for further information.

What's your build date on your Ranger?

Jar cub,

12 Feb. So one day after the 11 Feb cut off for the TSB.

Ah that's a shame. Yeah, I was going to recommend TSB 19-2052 for a PCM update. I had the same issue with my Ranger but it falls within the build date so I did the PCM update on it with our scan tool and it remedied the problem. More than likely, your best bet is to go to the dealer and having them diagnose the concern. Your truck is under warranty, more than likely (not guaranteeing it) they'll try the PCM update if the tech sees that TSB. However, you never know, could be another issue unrelated to the PCM parameters.

Just scheduled an appointment for tomorrow, why they can never get me in same day beats me. Anyways, I have a feeling it is just the PCM like you stated. There’s only one day in between those dates, who’s to say my truck didn’t slip through. Hopefully I can get mine fixed like you did!

Hi

The dealer should be able to check quickly if you are at the latest PCM software as a first step. Hopefully this is the case that your PCM needs update, but I am thinking the PCM is up to date and you have a different problem. It is rare for one to slip through the cracks. Are you certain your build date is 2/12?

Gentlemen,

I just picked the truck up from the dealership. The issue ended up being the PCM.

My dealership is now dealing with how to get ford to cover it, since the truck was built one day after the TSB.
