AMERICAN 1.5 CENTURIES AGOI think the Aussies invented the term many decades ago...
Not Vietnam. Nor Korea. Not really. Fun fact, ever since either Vietnam or Korea(can't remember Wich one it was) it was thanks to the US making huge orders to auto manufacturers in Japan to make Jeeps for the War. Toyota and Nissan were involved for sure(others may have been too but I'm not sure). Thanks to that the two manufacturers were able to build their own versions of the Jeep. For Toyota it was the Land Cruiser. For Nissan it was the Patrol. Both being well built at that.
You are correct about it being after WWII. When the US Military put in the ordered it helped Japan come back from the pitfall they had. It was during one of the two wars after that the orders were put in and being fulfilled (I found out a few years back while watching History of the Z). Toyota and Nissan at the least I'm sure took many notes on the Jeeps design since it was a very practical vehicle of it's time for the particular useNot Vietnam. Nor Korea.
It was after WWII. Part of trying to get Japanese industry started back up. Willys ended up bitching, via lawyers, and Toyota had to stop using "Jeep." Welcome "Land Cruiser."
Lot more than that to the story but you get the gist.
Sure is, don't know what they were thinking. They also tossed the previous v8 diesel, beloved over here of owners of large boats and Caravans, and replaced it a poxy little V6 diesel with a "revolutionary Hot V" design.Yeah, it's called the Land Cruiser..... And the new one on its way is FUGLY!!
