Even I know that you need to put an outback on a flatbed unless you want to wreck the drivetrain. but I suspect it doesn't matter much for this particular one being towed.

If you're using a VPN, try locating it in a free world country.

Seriously, if you have settings for block content or pop-up windows, or do not have Java Script enabled, one or more of these may be causing the failures.
No VPN. But I do block a bunch of extraneous garbage. Can't remember if I block javascript or not, but it sounds like something I might do. It doesn't normally cause trouble anywhere. Suggests to me if their site breaks because I haven't enabled them to do whatever TF they want to my computer that I probably don't want to visit that website, anyway.

there should be spike after 2019
That's a little deceptive and I think hides the trend of the particular usage of the term we're discussing here. I was certainly aware of the "modern" version of the activity well before 2019. But I have definitely noticed an increase in the popularity of using the word, even in cases where the same activity was just "camping" just 10yrs ago or even less. I think for a lot of people, that change seems to have happened the day they bought a rooftop tent for their 4x4.

And the best part is most simply go to their one spot they picked out and stay there. In reality it may be camping, but if not doing the actual traveling multiple different places in a trip(even if you spend a day or two at different places) then I don't consider it "Overlanding or Touring".

so the old timers never camped while overlanding the oregon trail?

should I also add that I have a roof top tent(pos GFC) but I call it camping even though I drive over land to the camp site?

and from the thread title-
Kids Today Think They Invented “Overlanding”…. Lol!

so I think we were discussing that the original overlanding was the same-ish

That tent in ‘66 was probably a $62.37 option, included 200lbs of canvass and about as much in aluminum poles. Also included a pattern book with suggested modifications your wife could sew together.
In 2023, a replacement valve for your on-demand portable hot shower system will cost you $62.37. Only it’s not available. The good news is the new model is out. It runs on a fuel that none of your current stuff does, the brackets for your rack system are sold separately, and it’ll set you back $1,200. But it’s the same brand as your RTT and includes stickers.

I overlanded alot in the mid to late 70's with my parents.

Sure most times it was just sleeping in the bed of the truck at my dads baseball tournaments at the ball diamond.

But occasionally it went off road.

Now off road is more like the ditch because he was pissed drunk and drove off into the sticks and we stayed there until he slept it off, or a farmer towed us out with his Massy Ferguson.
I believe in one instance he managed to keep the momentum going with the three on a tree and got us out the other side of the muddy ditch, to only sink us in a muddy field where the dairy cows hung out. Farmer was not impressed as a fence was taken out in the process and the cows took advantage.
But what an experience though. Waking up to the sunrise over the trees, the sounds of birds chirping. Trash Pandas rooting through anything they could find strewn about the area.
My generation lived a full life because of this. Todays generations are soft.

If you did get it, great. If you did not get it, this whole subject is all about “tongue in cheek” :)

Not really. Fun fact, ever since either Vietnam or Korea(can't remember Wich one it was) it was thanks to the US making huge orders to auto manufacturers in Japan to make Jeeps for the War. Toyota and Nissan were involved for sure(others may have been too but I'm not sure). Thanks to that the two manufacturers were able to build their own versions of the Jeep. For Toyota it was the Land Cruiser. For Nissan it was the Patrol. Both being well built at that.
CJ3B-J4 Jeeps built by Mitsubishi in Japan were supplied by the U.S. to the South Vietnamese army (known as Army of the Republic of Vietnam, or ARVN), because the cost was lower than shipping Willys Jeeps from the U.S. They can be quickly recognized by the split-pane windshield, vent below the windshield, electrical connector on the right side of the hood, and distinctive headlight guards,

Right on...American Pioneers roughing it...however, I'm referring to the phrase "overlanding"...that was started by the Aussies I believe...
I stand corrected, that could be true!

Don't laugh. I went some places in a 67 Plymouth fury with a slant six that some 4x4's were having trouble with.
Ha, the slant sixes and the 245 / 265 iteration of the American Motors six in Cherokees and Wranglers were arguably two of the best, most reliable engines Chrysler ever built. (note I did not say fastest, 318 fireballs were pretty quick)

My wife and I went to one of those in Florida once, (outback restaurant) the menu was hilarious, we were forced to liberate one to show friends and family back home!
