You'll love the Ford Performance Tune!......it makes the truck awesome all the way around!

My mechanic installed it in about an hour.....I brought my own laptop.....super easy install....there's NO WAY in he!! they took a half of a day to install....I'm calling them out as liars!!.....I could have installed myself it was that easy.......just thought I needed my mechanic......which I really didn't but I didn't know that at the time.......good that the dealer installed it for warranty purposes though.......my tune and truck has been flawless (over 1 year and 15,000 miles with the tune) and I'm not worried about the warranty for that........I bought the extended warranty for other reasons.....like the lights (extra cost in addition to the extended warranty), or the A/c system, sensors, stuff like that......but Ford still has to PROVE that the tune caused any other issues if they fail which will be very hard for them to do!

I'm interested in the FPT. Is it majorly noticeable? Accelerating and shifting? I'm curious about getting one and a lot of people are saying to get a Livernois or 5 star, fair enough, but I'd just get the Ford tune, if anything.

Down sides about the Ford Performance Tune.

#1 your power train warranty is no longer a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty. It becomes a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Do not confuse this with warranty being voided because it is not voided. Just downgraded is all.

#2 with the warranty it goes off the original purchase date of the vehicle, not the tune. So if you bought the vehicle 3 years ago as of today you will no longer have a factory power train warranty (refer to #1 for details)

#3 for some reason you will be stuck with the Ford Performance Tune once it is installed. For some reason Ford thinks you should stay on that tune and not have the factory tune available (don't ask me why, but others have reported this).

#4 with the tune you will be required to run premium fuel(91 and up) when the tune is installed. If you are one that likes to run 87 then this is not the tune for you.

From personal experience I can't say but I can give my best input from what others have had.

#1 thanks to an update you can still safely tow with the tune(with performance tunes you are best not to unless certified by the tuner)

#2 others have reported improved shift feeling

#3 you have more power than stock

#4 the tuner box is from Livernoise

Other than that I can't say

#5 even though it is a tune from Ford, it is on the Ford Performance side and therefore any extended warranty company can deny warranty claims due to the tune. Double check the fine print of the extended warranty for further details and to cover your ass.

#1 Wrong - After the FP warranty is up your power train warranty stays in effect. If the cause of a power train failure can be attributed to the tune Ford could deny the claim. But in the last 8 years of owning 2.3 Ecoboost powered vehicles and participating on the platform forums I have never heard of someone with the FP tune have a claim denied. You need to read the warranty document FP published.

#2 Partially Correct - Yes the FP supplemental warranty is based of the original sale date of the car BUT, your power train warranty still stays in effect, see #1

#3 Wrong - the factory tune is backed up on the ProCal 4 handheld device, you can reinstall the stock tune at anytime. When 93 Octane was approaching $5.00/gal I reinstalled the stock tune. When you select TUNE with the ProCal after it was tuned the first time you are presented with a choice of installing the Performance tune or the Stock tune.

#4 True - The need to run premium was the reason I reinstalled the stock tune. Later went to an Unleashed 87 octane performance tune to get the improved shifting Unleashed offers.

It's ok to think you are right when you are wrong about the warranty. Read the paperwork from Ford Performance and understood it well. That is why it is stated as such above.

As for the tune switching this is the first I have heard of it. Before others have stated they could not find the stock tune

You really should read the warranty document. The first paragraph clearly states that your new car warranty is not voided. It states that anything not caused by the tune are still covered. AND, as I stated earlier in the past 8 years of 2.3 Ecoboost ownership I have not heard of anyone having had a warranty claim denied because of the FP tune.

Correct, it is not voided. It is downgraded as previously stated. Don't know why you seem to think those two word mean the same thing but they do not. Void mean no more. Down graded means you still have something of the sort, just not was originally there.

It was shared earlier but this is likely the best video out there about it. I recently saw one of his videos on maybe the new GMC mid-size where he commented that he still likes his trucks power or something.

I tow a lot and the down graded warranty has kept me from doing the tune. We might be selling our trailer since we dont have the time anymore with kids sports so I started thinking about the tune again. Still, I think I rather get an intercooler and radiator as Vegas summers really heatsoak the cooling. Doesn't over heat but I can feel the boost difference even with 91.

Well, it does say it won't VOID your new vehicle warranty, but it doesn't say it will or won't shorten it. Then again, the last sentence in the first paragraph DOES say engine and driveline warranty will remain eligible according to terms of the new vehicle warranty. And no, I'm not trying to argue with anyone, I'm just trying to get a full understanding of this because I'm in the market for a tune and so far have been leaning heavily toward a reputable tuner. But, if I can KEEP my powertrain warranty to my 5yr 60K, that would be a major plus. I'm not doing any performance mods besides a tune anyway.
