Overshare moment warning. I didn't start until after Iraq. Just got a bit worse as time went on after that. Never got dumb with it.. "high functioning" for sure (?) Retired and thought I could stop on my own. Nerp, failed pretty hard on that.

I want to be around for the grandkids or even grandkids, kids.

This was the last drink tonight at my favorite pizza and beer place.

Been slowing down for a bit to not end up in a hospital when I stopped.. if that was even a possibility based on what i was doing. Now with some help, a solid support group if I need it, and some meds - I think I can kick this habit.

It was fun-ish.. but you are expensive and doing some serious damage to my liver. Also, I like to drive and can't do it if I had this stuff.

So less seriously random as hell posts or replies from me.

Hope to look back at this a year from now and laugh at myself for thinking this will be hard, I hope anyway.

Well done.
Hang tough, as you already know this will be hard.
Use all the tools at your disposal when you need them, as there's no shame in getting help from your friends and professionals.
You got this!

You can do it. I stopped back on Jan 2 2021 and have been steady ever since. Saves me a lot of money, no hangovers is awesome, my health is better, and I've lost weight.

But make no mistake: I'm the same old asshole I've ever been, I've just got more money in my pocket?

Good on you. I quit in November 2020 due to questionable health issues with pancretitus. I honestly wasn't drinking enough to cause but who knows. Turned out I had a sludged up Gall Bladder. But regardless certainly glad I made that decision anyways. Your health will be better for it.

Totally respect anyone who can commit to this. Alcoholism to any degree is a minefield not just for health and finances but risk and liability to those around us.

There are aides to clearing your body of toxins and I'm a fan of NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) I learned about after a bout of pneumonia twenty plus years ago. It helps lungs and livers clear so I expect it benefits a lot of organs. If you are in the hospital from a Tylenol overdose they hook you up to this stuff intravenously. I'm not aware of negative levels of supplementation and you can pick it up anywhere. I even saw it at Walmart. There was a bizarre period of time where certain authorities pressured retailers to pull it because it was being touted to help recover from Covid - which (like Ivermectin) it seems to do.

Patrick I wish you the best of luck as I'm sure it won't be an easy road. But you can do this and we're all here for you on/off the forum if you feel the need to talk or just vent some. I've been lucky and have never been an addictive person (well, ok dampers and 303 don't count ?) but I've seen many friends go through this with drugs and alcohol. Admitting it is the biggest step as most never want to admit they have a problem.

I do just about everything I can holistic and rarely take any meds. See if you can find yourself a good holistic Dr in your area as they are SO much better than these quacks the call themselves Drs now a days. One thing I do on a regular base is take Activated Charcoal. It helps cleans your body of toxins, EMT's carry this for poison calls. I'll take 2-3 pills every night for 2-3 nights every 4-5 weeks. It's also really good for times when you either overeat or even over drink (which you won't be doing ) and helps take away that bloating and queasy stomach. Only thing is if you're taking any prescription meds you can't take this 3 hours before or after taking the meds as it will flush them right out of your system. Goos luck with this....YOU CAN DO IT!!!:like:

For me it was a matter of trading one kind of spirit for Another. i have found other men that share the same addiction and together we can maintain a happy, joyous and free life each day. I can't keep me sober today, but we can. And that's all we have is today.
Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
That's why we call it
The Present

Good for you @Wytchdctr ! It won't be a walk in the park but you will feel better physically and mentally for doing it. You are lucky to have a support group at home and on here

I lost a couple years ages 19-22. only a couple blurry memories pop through the haze once in a while and I'm not really sure they happened....

...pot is not an addiction... it's medical
Anything can be an addiction if it can't be stopped. My personal experience was that pot led me into an abyss of harder, more lethal drugs as I sought more intense and longer highs. Again, just my personal experience, but I wouldn't trade a day of the gift of my sobriety for a day of being high.

As has been said above, we are here for you. Feel free to reach out to me, I promise to not annoy you about your choice of damper/no damper.

Stick with it.
