Probably a dumb question, but I'm testing the aux power points in the dash, and it seems like they either take a long time to turn off after turning the Ranger off, or else they stay on indefinitely. The owner's manual did not say anything about when they should turn off. Does anyone know exactly how they operate?

I believe I read they are functional for 2 hours after the truck is turned off - unless the battery module detects a low battery and then they get shut off earlier. But I've not seen anything in the manual that says that.

Good question...can anyone address all the truck’s power points, front and back, and whether always on, or ignition on (and delayed off). Thanks....

Thanks for that answer. I wish they would turn off right when the truck is turned off, like almost every other vehicle out there. That way we could use them to power up other accessories, but since its not a switched power source, that won't work.

I have a dash cam connected through one of the cigarette lighter type power points on the Ranger , it goes off after a couple of hours. Not an issue. I also have a Cadillac Deville and they never turn off ,THAT is irritating.

Thanks, that’s good news. My 2011 Mustang’s power point was ALWAYS on, and killed the battery every time I forgot to turn off the dashcam.

I don't know if it is adjustable or if different outlets perform differently, but my extra USB set is wired in to the RH powerpoint and when I shut the key off it looses power in just a few minutes.
Don't know if its related, but the radio and power windows stay on for about 10 minutes unless you open the door.
I might just go time it next time I'm in the shop for a while.

Correction... That powerpoint stays on for at least an hour, (probably two) and then shuts off.
Not sure about the rest yet.

Yes, 2-hour timer for mine as I've got a cell phone booster plugged into one and wondered. I also found this to be true of the 12v for bed aux port that I used as a power source for my LED bed lights. They are only supplied with power for the 2-hour time frame. Then I have to open the doors or wake up the vehicle to activate again.

They stay on for about 2 hours after you turn the ignition switch OFF.

Does anyone know if this 2 hour time could be changed using FORSCAN?
Note sure, but it looks like this might do what you are wanting:

Power Point 1 second time (This will turn off power points after 1 second of turning off truck)
BCM 726-39-01 0001 0101 006A

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone found a way to keep these power points active at all times? In my RAM I could move a fuse. I spend a lot of time camping and I typically charge my phone in the truck overnight

Old thread again, hooked up a ghost xl camera to the power point and it is on for a little over an hour after engine shut off. I read the ports are always on but will shut off when the battery reaches 11 volts so are we discharging the battery to 11 volts each time? I also have bed lights hooked to the bed power point that stay on for a time but have never observed for how long. So question is, are they timed or are they shutting off after battery level drops?

I don't know for sure, but I would assume it is an OR situation. So the power stays on for a period of time set by the computer (which I think is configurable in FORScan), OR it will get cut if the computer sees the battery voltage drop to 11 volts - that would be part of the battery management system. Conversely, I've seen others who think the BMS only monitors charging....

This post talks about how to set that timeout, although it doesn't appear it has been confirmed to work.
