Pre-planning? Maybe they know you will only have 26 a week after you receive them. Just trying to manage expectations, is my guess.
What's pre-planning? Is that making a plan in order to make a working plan? Aren't all plans ahead of time? That's like the city doing a million-dollar survey to determine if it's feasible to spend a million dollars on road repairs. (Sorry, just ribbing you?)

Whatever size crescent you decide on, make sure it's metric :giggle:

Seriously though, I go through this every time I take my Mustang to the track. I tend to overpack with tools. A good pared-down list of must-haves for the Ranger would be nice.
A co-worker calls a Crescent wrench a 'several sixteenths' wrench.

But any who. I don't do off roading, so this is the only tool I carry:

I don't carry anything while around town. When we go on vacation I carry this Crescent set which has just about everything and I also bring a 18" breaker bar. It folds up nice and I lay it under a larger tote which I carry my bottle jack, another bag of assorted screwdrivers, flashlight, duct tape and large hammer.

First and foremost, you only need metric wrenches/sockets. Leave the sixteenths stuff at home. Then (IMHO) you can further lighten your kit to include 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 21 and 24 mm.

Does that come in a kit with an omni-directional metric screw driver and a dual left/right hand metric hammer ???

I was always told, 'don't use your wrenches as a hammer', then there are these:

More than once I've come to the rescue of someone trying to get lug nuts off on the side of the road using the POS tools that came with their car. That's why I carry a breaker bar and assorted lug nut sockets.

Now THAT is a good idea. Some tire places tend to over torque those nuts.

If you are going to carry a set of wrenches, I really like these Flex Head Ratcheting combination wrenches. I tend to use these more than my socket wrenches these days.

Just ordered these - thanks for the great suggestion!

I carry what I reasonably expect I can fix. On my 2400 mile trip to Ohio I carried a 24" breaker bar and 19 mm deep socket for lug nuts (also for self defense along with bear spray), 12 ton bottle jack, rubber wheel chock, air compressor, cheap tire plug kit, set of metric sockets, 18" swivel ratchet, small first aid kit, quart of oil.

I keep something similar in my truck for emergencies. Mine is a cheap kit from Harbor Freight. I keep my good tools at home.

I also carry a 1/2" breaker bar. a wheel socket set, A pressure gauge, and bottle jack/jack stand combo. When I go camping I also through in a small kit with misc electrical tools. Never know what might go wrong with the TT. Have had to use it much, but have helped out fellow campers.

Many "better" brands switch between metric & SAE. Check yours. One of my old craftsmans says 8" on one side, and 200mm on the other.

Now, do you put the 200mm side facing toward the nut or bolt? Or away from the bolt of nut? I haven't figured that out yet.
