Sorry, just got to the hotel in L.A. and saw all this. First, I want to say thank you. I was pretty annoyed the entire trip here thinking about my truck but it’s awesome to know there’s a community out there that cares and wants to help. Second, it’s not an HOA, I rent for what it’s worth, so their rules. They gave us somewhat of a vague warning we just didn’t know what day exactly they were coming. So, I guess, that could be on me except I really didn’t know where to have my truck parked where it would be safe or when. They were blocks away in the morning and seem to be skipping around with the painting for whatever reason. I just wish they would have knocked. My front door is right by the carport.
vague warnings honestly aren't good enough. if they're not going to tell you the exact day they're going to be working so you know what to expect, then they did not do their due diligence to notify you. take it up with the painting company's insurance and make them actually pay to make your truck right. maybe they'll learn for next time.

I get notices when my water company is doing work and there will be sediment in the water lines that I need to flush from my hose bib and maybe flush my water heater and clean my faucet strainers. I get notices from other utility companies working in the area if they're going to dig up my yard. usually just a mailer, but still.

water company in a different city failed to give any notice, so I had no idea about the incoming slug of sediment from a water main repair. which clogged my faucet strainers and caused multiple water fixture ruptures in my house. THAT was infuriating.

Hi, MBNate,

Our Hoa permits utilities unlimited access between lots without notice to the homeowner. Four or five times a year we get Southwest Gas searching for gas leaks in our side yard. They found a leak in our neighbor's house while they were away to their house in Kronach Germany as they are from Germany. I do not mind as they are decked out in Southwest Gas garb.

On painting...this is way over the top to not notify the homeowner, even as a friend and neighbor.

Good news is that latex cleans up completely with alcohol.

best,
Phil

I don't mind if they don't notify if the work itself doesn't carry a risk of harm to myself or damage to my property.

in the case of the water system where sediment winding up collecting in my pipes and fixtures can cause expensive damage if I don't do specific things to mitigate it, I NEED to know.

in the case of painters who might overspray, they'd damn well better notify me so I can make sure I move anything that might get painted. and they'd also better use drop cloths.

I was the maintenance director for my Condo association for a few years. We emailed, posted to the community board with two weeks notice and then deliver a printed notice to each door 48 hours in advance. The cost per project is about $300.00 includes printing and delivery. Dates, start and end times, and scope of work is included.

We give notice for snow removal from the street, and cars remain parked on the street. We threaten to tow - but we don’t due to the liability. We say we are not responsible for damages - but we are….

The way we operate is any damage is the responsibility of the association. Any damages for the entire project is then deducted from the payment to the contractor. The association is accountable to the owner/tenant, and the contractor is accountable to the association.

So, what happened sucks. This should not be too difficult to resolve. I would try to fix it myself if it wasn’t too involved - that may be the most convenient option now. The only way this should involve your insurance company is if repairs are needed at an expense and neither side of contract agree to pony up. They then go after the responsible parties. That’s one of the advantages of having insurance. They do the dirty work.

Big test today. Hoping for good things from the 303 Graphene. My neighborhood started painting my house and without a knock on the door, painted the carport. They covered the truck but I would have been MORE than happy to move it. No idea they were coming today. Happy overspray day. Just venting. Bad words. It’s the spot that looks like this ?. He has many friends.

Its sucks that kinda thing happens. But I was more shocked by the statement "My neighborhood started painting my house"

Claybar should take care of that very easily, especially if you have the 303 on there.

FWIW, about 35 years ago my wife's ex decided it would be a good idea to pour enamel all over my white car. He dumped a gallon of dark green and dark grey on it.

In desperation I went to the self serve car wash. The high pressure wand blew the paint off the car in sheets. A razor blade scrapper took it off the glass quite nicely. The only place I needed to use solvent was on the rubber moldings.

All in all it took about two hours to clean the car to the point you never knew it happened. Of course I always kept a coat of wax on the paint which I am quite sure made getting the paint off the car much easier.

It happened again. They were gone for a week and came back to finish it off I guess. White this time, so, I guess that’s fun. I haven’t really been on here much since this first happened, not the truck’s fault but not really feeling like looking at it anymore. No knock or doorbell. I’ll be drinking.

I want to but honestly it did come off the first time. It took some work - I washed and clayed and graphened, but it did come out. I can either do it again or deal with insurance from a company contracted through my rental community with people who don’t really understand English and find a bodyshop or whatever. Seriously, it just sounds more painful then spending a Saturday with my truck. I guess I just wanted to complain into the wind. So, thanks for letting me do that. Maybe I’ll set up a system of bells on ropes around my truck. I miss that feeling of wanting to look at my truck.

I mean honestly, how is the paint company going to know they screwed up if someone doesn't tell them? they can't fix something if they don't know there's a problem. and if the rental community ppl know there's a problem, they can either hire a different paint company next time or hold the company's feet to the fire about protecting residents' property.
