Just one of those days (that your truck gets involuntarily painted)

Sorry, insurance. I have full coverage but I honestly don’t know if it would help here or not.
the only insurance that should get involved is the painting company's. they should make it right 100%. simple notification of their desired painting date would have prevented this, as you could have moved your truck easily.

Christ... as if not being allowed freedom of choice was enough to not ever want to live in a HOA shithole.. now this ?‍♀

We're doomed as a species.
don't have to live in an HOA for this to happen. your neighbors could be having their home painted and overspray from their place could wind up on your home/vehicles. happened to a friend of mine. it happens when paint crews get sloppy with sprayers. has next to nothing to do with an HOA.

When OP says "nieghborhood started painting my house and carport".. kinda sounds like an HOA thing to me.

sure, but the HOA just contracted the paint crew out to do a job. doesn't matter who pays the paint crew. if the paint crew is sloppy and/or doesn't let people know when they'll be doing a job, there's a chance for this kind of thing to happen.

there's an argument to make that the HOA should let homeowners know a general timeframe of when the paint crew will be in the area. but they aren't who is determining which house gets done on which day. like I said before, this can happen just the same when there is absolutely zero HOA involvement.

I remember driving over yellow highway line paint. It was done on my way to work at 5:30, so no one would be affected...

When I got home, 9 hours or so later, I used a credit card and scraped almost all of it of. It took someelbow grease and time though. Went back with polishing compound to rid the clear coat of any scratches and all done. Looked good as new, but I wasn't using a magnifying glass.

Drop cloths are cheap and knocking on a door is free. If it's more than a 20 minute wipe down I'd bring my car to a pro detailer and have them do it and tell the paint company to cover the cost. If they refuse, small claims it is. My time is valuable and I don't waste it on the negligence of others.

Thats not always the case unless it's a condo complex. I live in an housing HOA and we can hire anyone we want. We just have to go by the list of approved HOA colors for the outside.

The real problem is most painters haven't been taught the correct way! They think because they've painted their apartment or their grandma's house they're now a pro. ?‍♂ I've spent the better half of my career trying to retrain and show them what they've learned wasn't the right way. Some listened but most think they know it all and didn't last a week. It only takes a few extra minutes to make sure things are covered up and tucked/taped securely. Most of these exterior guys ar what we call "blow n go" painters. They show up tape the windows and doors, spray it as fast as they can without backrolling and they're off to the next house. Just like any profession there's good and bad and you really need to do your homework (reviews, referrals) before hiring anyone now a days.

Our has a pretty good array of colors so I can't complain about that.

This is the first HOA I've lived in and hopefully the last! While they're good at keeping the area (common grounds and houses) looking nice so someone isn't painting theirs purple and has junk cars everywhere, they're terrible at nit picking little things. They're usually made up of old retirees who have nothing better to do but drive around and report people for 1 weed in their yard.

Sorry, just got to the hotel in L.A. and saw all this. First, I want to say thank you. I was pretty annoyed the entire trip here thinking about my truck but it’s awesome to know there’s a community out there that cares and wants to help. Second, it’s not an HOA, I rent for what it’s worth, so their rules. They gave us somewhat of a vague warning we just didn’t know what day exactly they were coming. So, I guess, that could be on me except I really didn’t know where to have my truck parked where it would be safe or when. They were blocks away in the morning and seem to be skipping around with the painting for whatever reason. I just wish they would have knocked. My front door is right by the carport.

Just had a tree trimming company last week nicely ask me to move my truck as most of the branches from the neighbor's tree were over my driveway. I was super happy to move my truck, van, etc out. Glad I did.. massive log of a limb came down right where I normally park. They were even nice enough to clean up the mess so my yard looked better than it did before they started. Only took them a few seconds to ask me to move and a few minutes to do the cleanup. Sorry, your truck got paint on it because that was too hard to do in the painter's case...
