I was already considering changing to a cleanable dry filter like AEM (a K&N product). I cleaned and oiled my K&N over the weekend and was going to reinstall it tonight. When I went to grab it, I realized it was clean side up. Uh oh, did I oil it that way? Yep. I oiled the clean side. This has to a common occurance. I also noticed oil droplets on the pleats. So I turned it over and let it drop a couple of inches. Mulitiple oil drops came off. I would assume if this was oiled correctly the drops would just get sucked into the pleats without issue. Nevertheless, I think I am switching.

That you had a K&N and then oiled it wrong. lol
LOL! I know right? But I can't be the first. Hence my thread title. I wonder how many K&N issues people bitch about are because they didn't oil it correctly.

I'm sure many and it's probably easy to do if you're not really paying attention. Trust me I've done a lot worse. ?:lipssealed:

Clean the filter, clean the MAF sensor, re-oil and install.
Or...how much do you want for it shipped to MN?

Shouldn't need to clean the MAF as I didn't actually run it oiled backwards. Will keep that offer to ship in mind. It's currently on the wood laundry rack by the woodstove drying after another cleaning.

I had a K&N in my old Sport Trac for literally 200,000 miles with no issues. Just cleaned and oiled it once a year. Most of the time when people have problems like a CEL it's because the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) got fouled from too much oil on the filter.

Not sure how you think AEM is a K&N Product but it isn't. Its actually a higher quality filter.

As for K&N, it does a horrible job at filtering small particles.... So bad that many have seen it wipe an engine.....

You might want to have a discussion with professor Google.
