Same symptoms I had...the clunk became a slam that felt like a sledge hammer under the truck...slipping and slamming is a sign that the clutch and or torque converter has gone south...hope the valve body exchange will help in your case...buy extended warranty if you don't already have one...cheap compared to $6K for new transmission...
I tend to think the symptoms are more in line with faulty valve body which I believe includes the shift solenoids, electronically controlled I believe as opposed to past hydraulic controlled but in any event transmissions have safety mechanisms that force a shift when the solenoids aren't operating correctly and it's a hard abrupt slam as opposed to the progressive action of properly working solenoids. Torque converters have become pretty reliable devices, other than some rpm fluctuations I can't really discern when the lockup is engaging/ disengaging. Too bad you didn't get a post mortem from ford on your failure.at least it wasn't an egr sensor failure misdiagnosed.

Picked it up today and seems good to go. Tow tune going on Friday, if it does alright on my commute tomorrow, and then back the trips up/down the mountain this weekend. The ole girl has a rough life, haha.
Just remember that after you apply your tune the shifting might be a bit wonky for a bit as the adaptive tables will all be reset. I just applied my LMS tow tune and the first 20 miles or so were a little rough, but things have smoothed out quite a bit. After some of the transmission discussions I decided to go to a regular shift tune, not a soft shift and I thought I'd try the tow tune - so far, so good....

As a precaution go ahead and redownload the current calibration and load it to the PC tool. After that have Livernois check it for any possible updates just in case Ford did a flash of the programming.

Ran mine with a 93 LMS tune since about 10k miles (fairly certain the tune had nothing to do with the problem) and went back to stock when it started acting up. I'll probably run their "tow tune" from here on out since the 93-performance tune makes me get stupid, haha.
It dawned on me that you were running the tune and they still warrantied it. Did they ever say anything about the tune or did you tell them?

Like I said, I swapped it back to stock when I started thinking this issue might require a visit to the dealership, so the truck probably had 300 miles or so on the stock tune when I took it. I never said anything one way or the other, just told them the issues I was having and they fixed it. Previously, I had a 2014 SHO that was also tuned by LMS and similar experiences with dealership visits. In fact, one time I forgot to take the tune off, called later to let the service guy know, and he put it back to stock for me. I kind of knew him though.

IMO, I think people get too spun up about canned tunes and warranty issues. Everything in life involves risk/reward decisions, including a truck that hauls ass.

Even though it was flashed back to stock they can still tell. It's good to know they still warranted it for you. I guess it all depends on the dealer but yes, some get to hung up on things.

If they asked I'd tell them. They're not my dad. Haha

I reached out to LMS late Friday and waiting to hear back from them. If the techs flashed the truck, it would have zeroed out my trip odometers, correct? I'm pretty sure they only reset the transmission software...and I'm itching to get the tune back on the truck. I think I'm good to go, but I also don't want to run into any new issues.

My LMS soft shift still shifts like doodoo into 5th;... not when it's super cold but before it warms up.

After my last flashing to try other tunes it didn't do it with the tow, etc. So it's something with the 93 SS and only after it "learns".

It doesn't do it if I am pushing it a bit, something I don't like to do until it's really warmed up.

So it just wants to be driven hard. When I'm hauling ass no weird noises, shifting, etc. Drive normal and it gets bitchy.

It also hates 53-59 degrees outside. Engine, a/c, trans, fucking... Rear bumper all make noises during that specific ambient temp.

Update: my truck is shifting better after the recent repairs. However, it is still not shifting properly, or like it used to before my issues first popped up, so I plan to take it back in for another look. At the tail end of my warranty and I want to get it sorted out before that expires. Kept the truck on the stock tune after suspecting that it might go back in soon.

Current issues are rough shifts, but not as rough as before the recent repairs and I'm no longer noticing the excessive pauses and slipping between shifts when the transmission isn't up to operating temperature.

I'll keep you all posted and should have the truck in for another look during the week of February 20th. Stuff happens.
