Hi Floyd,

Very cool! The box clock has a trademark I do not recall ever seeing before...have to look up in my trademark book when I get home from our summer RV camping in Flagstaff.

A bit of my collection...spring wound and weight powered. Double dials over kitchen cabinets are quite rare. Banjo in middle of the pix is by Horace Tiff in 1855 and rare. Three weight Vienna over the mesquite table and next to Margie's painting of Canyon Du Chelle White house is by Vienna Clock Maker Zschimmer in 1866 and is the only example of this clock maker in the world.

I have restored and repaired all these clocks to good running order and this is about 1/5 of my collection

Best,
Phil

That’s impressive: One of its big emissions enablers is fitment of both port- and direct-injection, with the latter's pressure bumped to 5,000 psi.

Like to see the alternator up higher too.

Wonder if this change is to help with the buildup on valves we see with just the direct inject.
It's really a shame for those of us that planned on sticking with the older 2.3 if that's the case.

Got hooked on Face Wound Clocks many years ago, I have 17 running in my house as I type this.
Many are well over 100 years old, examples from several countries,... single, double and tripple train even Bim/Bam and multiple chimes. Funny how you just don't hear them much after a while but visitors sure do! :like:

I love mechanical clocks and watches. Especially watches, the mechanical artistry in watches can be mind blowing. Here is my watch collection. The 9 on lower right are all mechanicals. My holy grail watch I hope to have is a Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon.

Wow! Amazing!! I'm obviously not a serious collector!
I'm saving the picture to show the next person who says I'm obsessed! :giggle:

The first clock is Aichi Prefecture (Circa 1903)
The second is a Kienzle (Circa 1883) It is the rarest of my, now miniscule collection.
It cost a fortune when it was new, I'm told in the neighborhood of $750, at a time when a Seth Thomas mantle clock could be under $10.:whew:
My old wrist could never wind your collection you must have forearms like ....

I would feel like an extra on an Alfred Hitchcock set being in the same room with all of those clocks clacking away. Replacing the battery powered movement in my Triumph wall clock was a major undertaking for me…

In reality, ICE engines worked on the same principle in 1903 as they do today.
Its just that mechanics today rely on computers to diagnose and computers to control the process.
Fact is that not one in fifty working auto techs today could diagnose and repair my 1950 Ford.
Most have never seen a carburetor or even a distributor.
How many could still adjust the rack on a two stroke Detroit?
It is true that techniques do change fast though, a few years after retirement can sure leave you without out the latest techniques or specialty tools.
Back in 1973 I had a friend who was a full time qualified mechanic. The day someone called him on a newfangled electronic ignition car... he called me and closed up shop.
When I built my first flathead I called a 90 year old retired mechanic, and learned a lot from him.
Right now I personally know exactly one guy who still knows his way around a Y-Block.
The skills today are no more or less challenging,.....Its focused experience (and support) which makes all the difference.:like:
You should see how many heads get scratched by old timer mechanics when I tell them that you have to manually adjust the valves on old VW air cooled boxers. It wasn't until 93' when VW of Mexico made a fuel injected set up with automatic self adjusting valves for the Type 1 "Beetle" . The response is "How do you adjust the valves?" Very carefully by turning the adjustment nuts while spinning the flywheel by hand.

Anything about 2024 2.3 engine ?
Unfortunately I doubt we're going to get the in-depth details about the 2.3 that we're looking for. The good news is that we know they're bringing the motor up to speed with the other ecoboost engines (as far as tech goes). Dual injection will be nice and I assume it will make a little bit more power to compete with new offerings from other manufacturers. I know some people are hoping to see a 2.7 ecoboost in the next gen ranger but I think a better and more powerful 2.3 will be the reality.

I asked this 24yo kid who was bragging up his older car mechanical skills, he was working on a 60's Chevy, did you check the dwell?

Deer in the headlights, it took a while to get through his head that there was more than a gap setting to a set of points, I said "you measure how long they are closed", he kinda twisted his head like a dog does when you whistle.

The dwell is a function of the gap setting. When you have the gap correct the dwell is correct. Measuring the dwell only came into style when Chevy came out with the distributor with the window in the cap that you opened and stuck an Allen key in there to adjust the points. Using a dwell meter made setting the gap super simple.
Not something that was necessary to measure with a Mopar or Ford distributor of the time.
The thing that went hand in hand with setting the gap was checking the initial timing. Since it is near impossible to set the gap exactly the same each time you needed to check the timing and adjust as necessary.

I wouldn't be to hard on the kid for not knowing what dwell is, it's not something that you need to know about.

I don't think I could get excited about this. The HP figures are the same and I wouldn't be surprised if performance took a hit.

I heard that Ford is claiming an "all new" 2.3L EcoBoost engine for 2024...
Any details??
The term "all-new" comes from the marketing team, not the engineers! When Ford brought the Ranger back to the States in 2019, the whole truck was described as "all-new," even though it was derived from the international Ranger that had never stopped being made. Hey, the Ranger is a great truck, for sure, and I love my 2019 Lariat, but "all-new," not so much...
