I had the hankooks for about 20k on my truck, and they did just fine honestly. Only time they let me down a bit was in deeper snow in NW Washington, which is known for being pretty heavy since it doesn't get THAT cold there. They were a great road tire tho, dry and wet they were just fine. Only swapped to my duratracs as I found a killer deal on OfferUp that I couldn't pass up. That said, I have a lot more confidence taking the truck off road with them. And if you want a great AT tire for snow, I don't think it gets much better than the duratracs. But thats just my 2 cents on it.

I don't have the luxury of working from home with my jammies, fire, and latte. I've got to be at work regardless of the weather.
It's 2022 man! Get you a stay at home job and door dash some lattes!

What tires are you running now?

I'm married with 2 teenaged daughters.

Sometimes it's nice to go to work. Even if it looks like this out!

I've been happy with them. Not sure how they do in the mud, it's rare out here. But everything else they've handled great.

I swapped out the factory Hankooks because I didn't like their wet asphalt performance.

I went to Falken Wildpeaks and they were much better all around than the Hankooks.

Recently I put Cooper Rugged Treks on my truck and put the Wildpeaks on my Jeep for street driving (I have Milestar Patagonias on another set of wheels for Jeep trail riding).

So far, I like the Coopers even better than the Wildpeaks though they're still too new for a long term impression.

My mechanic highly recommended to me to get the Cooper AT3? He has them on his Tundra and has driven long distances in snow and really is impressed by them both highway and off road. That is probably what I will get once I wear out my Hankook's which have been OK. We normally don't get much if any snow here where I live. It snows an inch and everyone freaks out. LOL Then it's gone by the afternoon. Although every 5-10 years we get dumped on. Now Ice is way different. We had a silver thaw not too long after I got my Ranger and I kept her parked as no cense going out. Sorry for the ramble.

I really wanted the Cooper AT3s on my Ranger but they weren't available in NY size at the time I purchased.

I was able to get them in 32s for my old YJ though. Haven't had a chance to drive them in any snow yet, but I expect they'll do great.

I have the Cooper AT3-4S, which is the non-LT version. I feel like they are a good blend between road, light off road, and all weather tire. I have about 10k on them and they are wearing well.

Shedding my stock, well-cared-for, Hankooks on my 2019 XLT this week at 39,000 mile…& a lot of it highway. Developed very strange wear pattern in front…wheel alignment in spec. Switching to Wildpeaks; already have Cooper AT3 on an FJ-40 Land Cruiser.

Forget the tires, there is no magic tire. Fix the muddy spot.

If you do any amount of snow driving, invest in a set of dedicated snow tires. There isnt an AT or all season that can come even close to matching dedicated snow tires. There cant be. They are literally made of different rubbers, more agressive siping, and AT tire rubber "glassifies" at around 40 degrees, where snow tires stay compliant well past 0.

Anyone in this thread making claims that their Duratracs or Toyo ATIII's or whatever perform the same in snow have absolutely 0 clue what they're talking about. I HAVE Toyo ATIII's for my summer wheels, and I would never run my $35k investment into a snowstorm running those tires. They get stiff in the cold weather, and braking performance decreases by a drastic amount.

If you drive in snow during the winter, buy snow tires, or stay home when it snows.

A bonus: Buying a second set of tires lengthens the life of your first set. I run about 10k per year on each set, so these should last me 5-6 years, rather than 2.5-3 if I only had one.

I think that should be "a significant amount". I mean, I drive in snow once or twice a year...but if I got snow tires they'd mostly wear like butter on a hot skillet when we get weird 100 year warm weather in January. (Again.) If you get weather that turns cold and then stays cold, then winter-composition tires make a heck of a lot of sense.

Mike - that is a good point.

I guess I mean if you drive in snow from December-April> Denver hits 70 in January occasionally, but we're mostly, cold.

FX4 owners, what’s your opinion and experience with the tires that come from the factory? When I got it it was the end of winter and last winter wasn’t anything special at all so I haven’t had the pleasure of driving in deep (or even more than a few inches) of snow. In the spring I tried to drive into my backyard after some serious rain abd the weight/mud combo shut me down. I feel like a more aggressive tire was necessary. I could feel the terrain management/ diff lock and 4LOW trying it’s best but the treads were quickly caked in thick claylike mud. Thoughts? Tire suggestions?
so ive had a decent amount of experience with different tires over the years and wheeling with my tacoma so if you see something you dont like. well sorry i ran these tires and pushed them and found out how good/bad they were so here ya go!

for the stock tires on the ranger i did not like them one bit! i had issues in rain and wet grass with them so i was not a fan at all! (truthfully ive always had aggressive tires so these street things i didnt like!) so at 4500 miles they have been now replaced with falken wildpeak at3s and so far i like them a lot for the bit of sand and mud ive taken them into no snow yet but that should change here in a few months! i know a lot of people with these tires and know they do great in snow so im not worried!

now for tires ive ran in the past
1. original k0s 33/11/15s- these tires i ran on a 91 toyota pickup they were great tires tbh but sucked in mud because well they are not designed for it!
2. cooper st maxx 265/65/16s- these i had on my tacoma for a time and they did great besides in rain they easily lost traction in rain but overall wasnt terrible but swapped them out so they wouldnt throw large rocks at my new truck lol
3. bfg ko2s.. 265/70/17s- i got these and ran them for a couple years and all i have to say is i hated them! they sucked in rain they sucked in snow they sucked in mud they sucked with any bit of water! i hate hate hated these tires! now they did great in sand or super dry environments and they looked good but the price for em tbh is more then it should be...
4. cooper st maxx 255/80/17s- i loved these tires so much that i got them a second time and at this stage i was wheeling more so i wanted something more aggressive for offroad but decent on road. they did pretty good in snow but again not good in rain but did awesome in mud, sand, clay or dry dirt and rocks even wet rocks they did great at 14psi! so i stand by these tires a lot! but they do have an issue when you get them worn down at the end of the life! they will pull to the right pretty good! its just how they are designed but overall i got almost 60k miles out of them with hard abuse so no real complaints with em!
5. toyo atIII 285/75/17s- i had these tires for 4 months and only had 4k miles on them and i loved them for snow and rain! i never got to go offroad with them because shortly after i was in my motorcycle accident so i couldnt do that stuff haha. but the tires went from this brand i loved the look of and how they performed to a tire i hated! they got super loud and road like shit after 4k miles i eventually had them swapped out with a set of falkens and later on found out they had two slipped belts in two tires so idk if they are great or not since i didnt own them long. but i stay away from toyo now
6. falken wildpeaks-275/70/17s- this is what i swapped to on my tacoma from the toyos and loved em so i got a set for my ranger
7.falken wildpeaks 275/70/17s- new set on the ranger ive had one bad tire but its getting replaced but other then that no issues

You'll never find "the perfect tire". If you find one that's good in mud, you won't like them on pavement. It just goes on and on lol.
Truck King on YouTube put an fx4 with factory tires on it, through some pretty serious mud/deep water. Momentum is your friend in mud most times.
