Tailgate Damper……cons?

Never heard of that happening, but more power to ya! I am sure it will be worth the mod.

I have seen it from working in an auto repair shop, it's why tool makers like Snap-on and Matco, make adjustable hood props for that situation.

And why would I have my arms full walking to my truck? They invented shopping carts for that very reason. If I don't need a shopping cart I don't need to use the box and the back seat is good for holding a couple bags of groceries.

So... Real men need shopping carts , but they don't need no steenking dampers?? ?
?Hope you don't drop the tailgate on an errant shopping cart.

Yeah, I will steal one so I can have one at home. But then I would have to leave it in the driveway after I load stuff and drive away.

Just leave it in the street for your neighbors to use. That way they have no reason to need dampers either.

Same with hood struts. Ford removed them because they aren't needed. Props never fail or bend aluminum hoods ?.

Ok so I know the tailgate damper is extremely popular but for me it’s take it or leave it I guess. I’ve not been in situation where I couldn’t just lower it by hand so it doesn’t slam. But hey it’s only like $40 so why not right? Before I get one I’d like to know if there’s anything any of you don’t like about it.

Just ask yourself if you would rather the hood have struts that allow it to open slowly or have to use two hands when it doesn't . Apply the same logic to the tailgate.

That's not a bad idea in the long run thanks for a suggestion so I don't have to mess with replacing hood struts when they blow out.

Broom handles work GREAT! They even make hi-tech adjustable ones which can fit under the seat.

So they sold expensive Snap-on hood props to the customer instead of replacing a relatively cheap hood strut?

Big Negative..... Today we were in a Flagstaff rain storm and we had returned from the store and I had a case of beer in the pickup box. So I headed out in the rain to get the case and I got hit with TWO rain drops more than I would have otherwise if I did not have this damn damper slowing me down.... Absolutely Unacceptable... Two rain drops... Just terrible....

My kid went running by just as I was opening the tailgate. If it wasn't for the damper, my tailgate would have a dent in it.

OMG , how tall is your kid ? They could have been decapitated if it had fallen down to neck height too quickly !

Thank God you have a damper . If it just saves one life !

I'd say there's been some really good arguments made from both sides of the opinion. But if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Never said anything about selling to the customer tools designed for mechanics to use themselves. If the customer is too cheap to get a set of struts or a new prop rod well their problem not ours. Oil changes have to get done.
