Truck lights stay on when switched to off position.

Hey guys,

i am having issues with my new truck, the other day my buddy asked me why are your lights on your truck when you were pulling in? I had them off as it was noon and all that should of been on was the front DRL. I than put my truck into park and none of the lights were on, as soon as i put the truck into drive my buddy told me my tail lights were on (not a stuck brake light) my license plate lights and marker lights were on. The lights inside the truck were normal and the front head lamps were still day times.

i did change out the marker lights for smoked LED lights, not sure if that would cause these kind of issues. When i turn off the truck, everything turns off normally. When i have the truck on and put the lights on everything works properly (inside the truck and head lamps).

If anyone has any tips i would really appreciate any information!

I had something similar happen, used a socket to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 10 minutes and it reset.

i tried disconnecting the battery but did not work, i saw on another forum that people were saying to keep it disconnected for a lengthy amount of time before putting it back on. May need to revisit this step.

Did you purchase your truck used? It’s possible a previous owner used Forscan to set the truck to run the parking light circuit for the DRLs.

I thought it was a Canada thing that lights must always be on when driving, even if switched off? Or does that apply only to DRL's?

What Jason said, pretty sure Canada's laws say they have to be on (DRL'S) when vehicle is on. Does not matter where the switch is positioned.

They do, the DLR operate just fine. They're not what i am having issues with. My whole truck should not be lit up during the day with the lights off. Only lights that should be on are the DLR's.

I do not sir , may be part if the windshield wizardry, used to be a little bubble on the dash ...

I'd have to look at my dash to verify but as stated above it is usually a half dome shaped small sensor in the middle of the dash close to the windshield .

EDIT : It appears it may be more of a square shape accoring to this .

Hi Tyler,

Do you by chance have a dash mat on your dash? Dash mats are notorious for causing this problem... The sensor is at the base of the windshield in many Fords and Lincolns as the 5G Ranger.

I would double check the canadian laws on DRLs thought I heard it was changes to include the side markers and taillights.

Maybe I missed it, but is the light switch in OFF or AUTO?
