Honestly there isnt a lot of money in selling cars especially now, but service? Holy shit the margins they have is unbelievable. New cars don't really make much money unless you add markups and bs like that but used ones are decent usually. My store operates on the principle that service keeps the lights on and is still some extra profit and sales is just profitDon't worry about the dealers. What they lose in sales, they will make up in repairs.
100 percent peoples lives change and priorities as well. As a species we think short term and have short attention spans. I will say tho to be fair ford is honestly trying to look out for customers, with all the crap dealers are pulling they really don't have a choice, so blame the scummy dealers who ruin it for everyone not ford. The name match requirement on orders is silly in this day and age.
How can Ford hold a dealership to that when they can't produce vehicles on a timely basis?
Do they really think 75% of people will keep their orders when it takes them a year to build them?
They actually are dealers will have to opt in to the electric program or get none at all ford is doing it as essentially 2 different companies with ev's the dealer really just facilitates the delivery and nothing else. Also you would think but a lot of people are stupid one of our finance guys sold a mach e buyer the maintenance package for the brakes oil changes fluids etc ON AN EV it doesnt have oil and as you said the brakes last a long time, the best part is he didnt bring it up the guy buying the mach e did. But beyond tires and regular wearables not nearly as much. So to address your last question dealers don't have to the customers a lot of times will end up doing it themselvesThey should do their EV's this way, they claim its a "seperate oval" , try it without the dealer , and do EV's need any kind if maintenance? Things will break , but is there "wheel motor maintenance " ? or some other drive train parts that need regular service ? I would think brakes last forever since most use the regen, just wondering how the dealership talks EV owners out of their money ? after the sale ...
That's what I'm thinking also. And, if ford isn't allowing the dealers to sell new vehicles to make money, the dealerships will have to make it up somewhere.Don't worry about the dealers. What they lose in sales, they will make up in repairs.
Yes, they're trying to do something. It's just not enough or the right thing in my mind.100 percent peoples lives change and priorities as well. In terms of buying, I don't care what dealer it is - best deal wins. As for service, I get much more picky.Tesla was the first to do it. Has it been smooth, depends on who you ask. People still prefer to do business with a known entity that is local to them. You have your preferred dealer already right? There are some local to me that I wouldn’t walk into their doors even if they were the only game in town. So this is going to pan out similarly.
Like Tesla, some will embrace it and others will say, that’s nice I’ll pass. That is until there is no other way. Think it’s going to be an all or nothing across the industry for this to work.
