I was driving back home on the freeway when some material flew out of a truck's dump trailer and slammed into the front of my truck. It dented and scuffed the hood, headlight, valance and fender. The guy pulled over and gave me his insurance and I've already filed a claim. I'd rather not have an accident on the record because of the value in resale down the road but it is what it is. Also, should I be concerned about color matching? Any pointers to getting it exactly back to perfect? What should I look out for. Any body shop guys on here?

That sucks...had that happen to my Mini right after I replaced the headlamps with aftermarket set and a piece of plywood debris kicked up the car in front...smacked the headlamp! If it's not dented, maybe it'll buff out?

Look up painless dent repair first.
It’s coming out of the at fault driver’s insurance’s wallet so I’ll go with the best repair possible. I’ll ask the body shop about that as an option

Some form of "scratch-out" will remove the paint/smudge. I've buffed out many "oop's" like that. May be able to use a headlight restore kit to remove the stuff on the headlight.

The headlight had stress cracks in it, it’s going to need replaced

That sucks, but could have been so much worse. Superficial damage wont hurt the trucks value.

New headlight, a little new paint, will be good as new.

.......And proof that there are still good folks around.

I have had dents like that. I have been lucky that I found an excellent body shop. If you can find a good shop near you, they should help you make good decisions. A good shop will be able to match your paint. At least to the eye it will match. They will paint up to a change in body line. I.e. they will not feather paint in part of the hood. Your entire hood will get paint.

It does suck to have your new truck dented like that. I feel for you brother.

Take it to your Ford dealer's body shop, they are your best bet to repair it. Do not go to any cut rate body shops.

Something like this happened to my Ranger as well :( I was driving down the interstate and a sign post on the road got kicked up by the car next to me and gouged my driver side rear door. Sucked even more for me because it was debris on the road, and not really worth going through the state DOT to cover me. $600 down the drain...

Anyways, my local body shop is fantastic and gave me the best option to fix the door. Everything is perfectly smooth and blended, and I'm not worried about resale value when it's such superficial damage.

That sucks man, sorry to hear. Did you go through insurance? If not they probably didn’t report it to car fax
