I think where Ford went wrong here is instead of piping in exhaust sound they should have piped in turbo spooling. Or, give us the choice of what we would rather hear! Then we could aftermarket mod the blowoff valve sound piping ?

If you want to hear your turbo you've gotta go WOT between about 2k-3k rpm. Put your truck in sport mode and shift up into a higher gear, slam the pedal and you'll hear the turbo. Obviously you don't want to lug the engine so I don't recommend doing this below 2k rpm. It seems like above 3k rpm the engine noise is louder than the turbo so you won't hear much if you let the truck pick the gear.
The other method is to tow something heavy going down hill. The engine braking spins it up as well.

Never noticed it during engine breaking, i'll have to watch for that. But locking it into 9th gear on the highway with a heavy load definitely spins er up.

The turbo sounds these trucks make are super minimal. My old turbo subaru outback made, even with stock exhaust and Intake, infinitely more whistle than this truck does.

I feel like I can hear slightly more whistle now with my muffler delete.. 'opening up' the intake in some fashion would increase the noise some.. putting a turbo on it that's sized for HP and not TQ would increase the noise..

Yeah I thought for sure I'd be able to hear it in the parking garage at work, but nope. Quiet as a church mouse.

or replace that stupid twist 2wd/4wd dial with something owners will actually use like a sound selector switch:

position 1 - fake v8 engine sounds
" 2 - bov sounds
" 3 - turbo spooling sounds
" 4 - fake or*asm sounds ( option for M or F )
" 5 - dispenses little blue pill , so next time option 4 not needed

Well good news. I heard the little snail under the hood on the way home when combining a steep mountain with S mode and the windows down. So, there's that. First time using sport mode and I must say I like it. What a difference.

It really is a lot more fun to drive in S mode. If you really want some fun add a tune. Even the Ford tune will make a big difference and you'll still retain your warranty.
