Turbo blanket is a performance part not a i care about my turbos live expectancy part. An anti lag system will destroy a turbo quickly but its responsive until it explodes.

The blanket stops the heat from escaping through the exhaust housing on the turbo, making it go through the down pipe. This aids in faster spooling and negligible increase in boost pressure. Wrapping the down pipe is common to get the spent gasses away from the exhaust housing even faster.

Definitely not snake oil but probably unnecessary unless you are pushing big power.

Wow this thread is interesting.

Ford did a good job of head shielding for what we should be using a truck for IMO... so I'd say ignore the blanket unless you do some crazy stuff with this thing. Like... umm road racing (really?) it, super hardcore offroad in hot climates, or towing 7500 lbs up mountains a good bit.

If you think it is a good idea to beat the shit out of a turbo-charged car and immediately shut it down - mechanics love you for the work you will give them. That said; nothing I do personally do to the 2.3 isn't sorted out by the time I calmly drive through my neighborhood so; no need for a timer or extended idle.

Has anyone installed a turbo blanket yet and if so is it worth buying.
Got this blanket for under $48. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078WXQKHP?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details seems quite well made.

Very tough, heavy, seams are very well done, many layers. all the right stuff. I got the T3 size. Would not fit between the waste gate actuator rod and turbo housing. Also will not cover the wide body of the twin scroll turbo. by the time I was done trying to stuff and spread it, I had cut and beat it pretty bad so could not return. Don't buy a generic T3 Blanket, it probably will not work.
