That sounds incredible, I like to make a homemade teriyaki salmon, soy honey ginger a tad of maple syrup sesame oil rice wine vinegar and the secret ingredient truffle oil also pepper garlic powder onion powder and the usual seasonings minus salt marinate the fish and then put a bit of the pepper garlic and onion on it and sear it in cast iron, once you flip all the pieces maintain the heat and pour in the marinade to cool the pan and help permeate the fish and cook it through and it gives you a lovely sauce to pair with garlic mashed potatoes lol. I usually eyeball and taste as i make instead of doing measurements but if you want I can give you a rough idea.

This is why Mary is the executive chef…. :)

No Columbia River Salmon, so Mary got Ora King instead.

The paper towel placemat is for the wobbly old guy. ;)

I showed her your Teriyaki Salmon, she said she would give it a try, maybe next week. One lucky guy.

They will be sawing my hip joint out first thing tomorrow and hopefully installing a new steel version in its place.

The joint they showed me was a chrome looking gadget and I did inquire to see if they had the sport blackout version, but the surgeon said no, just the chrome look, so it isn't going to match the truck, bummer...

I had a first cousin who never came home from his knee replacement surgery (my sister actually found him dead in his recovery room, suboptimal). So if blood clots after joint replacement run in the family and I don't make it, I just wanted to make sure anyone I might have slighted along the way here knows, it was me not you. :)

Cheers, see you all next week sometime.

Hey, Bill, I was never much into chrome on trucks, but if the "chrome appearance package" is the only option available to get you back into "Sport" mode, then pedal to the metal, baby! With best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery!

(And do not worry about blood clots or other possible side effects that are, as you say, "suboptimal"--but extremely rare for this kind of surgery., not gonna happen!)

Hey Marc,

Thanks for the well wishes. I know you are right about the odds of the clot thing, if it were a big deal, I am pretty sure I would be in an ICU.

Honestly, when it happened to my cousin, the doc told my sister who found him something like, he must have thrown a clot. I wasn’t in the country at the time and never heard if there was an official autopsy to determine the actual cause of death. At the time I remember wondering how the doc determined that and that to my mind it could have just as easily been a heart attack or stroke from non-surgery related factors. My cousin was a retired long haul trucker and waaay over weight, so it may not have anything to do with his new knee.

One of the other side effects, I think of the meds, are I am starting to have some really lurid dreams. Last night I was dreaming my leg blew up like a ballon and popped. I woke up in a pool of sweat.

What a hypochondriac. :)

Meds can have some weird effects on you. I don't take any but there are times when you have to and I've had my share of crazy dreams too. Once I dreamed I was being chased by a bunch of people with axes and pitch forks (we were watching a horror movie a few days prior) and woke up in a sweat and out of breath. It was so real I had to stop and rethink the whole thing. lol

How are you feeling today?Hopefully every day is a better one for you and a speedy recovery!!

Hey Dave, thanks for keeping track, I really appreciate it.

I am feeling pretty good. It is frustrating as I don’t have a really good feel for how much progress I am making. Yesterday my hip and the surrounding muscles were pretty tender. Moving around during the day, it seemed to be more sore and maybe a little weaker than like the third day. When I mentioned it to Mary last night, she said she thought I had been up a lot more moving around with the walker and that maybe was why I was feeling it more. It is really hard to have an objective measure of my progress, especially when I throw in my propensity to be a pretty big baby.

Mary has always been super disciplined and an anti baby about health issues. She was the one up at 4am during the week, so she could get her 1.5 hour lap swim in before getting back to get our daughter ready for school and then herself out the door for work. She hasn’t slowed at all in her discipline with 3 hours of hiking most days, an hour of yoga, usually 3-4 days of hitting the gym for an hour or so pushing weights around, etc.

This morning as I was down making coffee, she turned and said, “how long are you going to be using that walker?”: She said, “In the class they said you might be able to get off of it within 7 days.” She is very competitive, I know my coach will be disappointed with me if I don’t beat the 7 day target, which means today I have to try sans walker.

If you ever go through this, pick your coach carefully… ;)

I think it's good to have someone like your wife who can give you that little extra "push" at times. Funny because that's how I am and when Annie fell hiking on vacation and when we knew there was no serious damage I kind of did the same. I made her walk on it and stretch out the muscles so they didn't get frozen in one spot. She wasn't happy about it and at times we had a few "words" but I understand she was in pain and she knew I was only trying to help. Now today she's doing a lot better, had very little pain and says she's glad I pushed her to walk and stretch. I think because it happened on day 3 and we were on the go for 27 more days it's going to take longer to heal.

I went through a frozen shoulder years ago and the PT was grueling. They bend and twist you into positions you never thought you could get into. So I kept reminding her that if it's not me it's going to be someone with a lot less compassion and you're going to hate it even more than you do now.

I'm still not sure she'd pick me again for her coach.?

well, for sure, anyone who knows us, knows I didn’t plate it.

The Salmon was wonderful, but the salad was even better. It has been a favorite of mine for a couple of decades. We only get it in the summer because everything has to be really peak of season. It is watercress on a bed of cantaloupe with seedless red grapes, walnuts, tossed lightly in a vanilla bean vinagerette. I swear I could drink the dressing out of a whisky sipping glass. :)

That sounds fantastic as well compliment the light sweetness and savory of the salmon while still being healthy, the vanilla vinaigrette sounds very interesting what exactly is in it?
