Dear Mike:The Hmmm, is 2 parts.
1. Would I get an XL or XLT instead of the Lariat? Probably an XLT, but maybe XL. The reason I didn't was because of the seats which on my short test drive, the Lariat seats seemed comfortable and and I wasn't impressed with the cloth seats (plus at the time, I didn't think the 4 way seats adjusted in height). Seats are now not a differentiator (explained in #2). I really like the dash layout in the XL/XLT so knowing what I know now, I'd probably have gone with one either of those.
2. The seats. I'm serious in that right now, I'm bummed about the seats. They just are not agreeing with my lower back at all. Tried many different positions on the seat and just can't get comfortable. For me, it needs a firmer/more supportive bottom cushion (my 2013 Jeep JK seats were great for me as is our Rogue seats). That softer bottom cushion is creating an angle my crappy lower back doesn't like (I go to the doc tomorrow to discuss my recent back MRI). Quite possible I would have not ordered had I known it would be this uncomfortable. Just initial impression and maybe I'll be able to find a position that works. Who knows, maybe I'll take it to an upholstery shop and look in to some different foam for the bottom cushion.
As someone who has had back surgery and knows how important support in the right places is for sitting and driving comfortably, I can tell you that there are aftermarket seating products that can make a world of difference. (I do not work for any such company; am just a fellow sufferer of back pain trying to help....) This is one of the most expensive solutions, but it works great for trips long and short! https://relaxtheback.com/products/mccartys-sacro-ease-car-back-support
Don't ditch a great truck--just find some other ways to support your back!
