Had this very same crash happen to the wife back in '08. She was in a Mistu doing 50.
Anyway corporate truck nailed her and sent her to the hospital with a broken wrist and ribs. Required emergency surgery to get things right with her arm. Anyway, the attorney got 40% of her half million settlement.
She still has pain from it today.

Glad your wife is ok

I recommend everyone have a dashcam. Save a lot if hassle with insurance

Good kuck in getting a new Ranger if thats the route you'll take
10000000% if you can get one that watches front and rear that is ideal but it will go so far in protecting you from insurance companies and insurance fraud

Thanks all for the kind comments. The wife (boss) is doing fine. Already has her eye on a new Ranger given the outstanding job it did in saving her life. (She just discovered the Tremor...oh boy).

I can vividly recall the devastating crashes of the 1970's wheeled tanks that did not have crumple zones or air bags or maybe even safety glass and the occupants were likely not restrained and mom and dad smoked ciggies with the windows up.

As a long time dashcam user I have learned this about them:

1) Don't trust a suction cup mount - it will fail on impact or on hot days, or ... Instead double stick tape the mount to the windshield. It's easily removed with a spudger.

2) Set the time for recordings as long as you can. It's amazing how often the important part occurs exactly in the 2 seconds between recordings. Mine two cams have a max of 5 minute recording time.

3) Check your dashcam frequently. Make sure it's working before you need it.

The cam in the truck is the below AKASO V1 that I've had for some years. It's not top of the line but is HD. Have to manually connect the cam itself via USB cable to the computer to get the videos off (not wifi). In the Ranger - it was very easy to route the power wire from the 12V accessory outlet up to the rear-view via under dash and inside of pillar cover. Didn't need to remove any interior trim pieces to get it routed.

I have an akaso as well mine has a front and rear cam good to know they hold up well and work great

2021 XLT FX4 southbound on Chapel HIlls. Chevy Express van northbound on Chapel Hills makes a left turn, does not yield right of way.

The Ranger collapsed completely in the front. The gaps between door and fender remain as they were from factory. All air bags deployed. The driver (my wife) is very sore and bruised but relatively unharmed considering the nearly instant halt from 35 MPH to 0 MPH.

The other driver's insurance company was very skeptical about who was at fault. Dashcam video tells the story:

Take a good look at the picture and you'll see why I think cutting the crash bars out is a bad idea. Instead of keeping the front wheel in place it would have had a much bigger chance of pushing back into the floor pan and injuring the legs of the passenger. I am glad you and your wife are ok.

Very happy to hear your wife is doing well. The Ranger did a stellar job in protecting her. Many thanks to all the engineers responsible for designing and testing these fine trucks so they perform as intended during these critical moments. Now it’s easy to see why @P. A. Schilke cautions us on modifying the components on our trucks that can affect how it absorbs a crash impact.

100 % agree! I dont shun anyone that removes the crash bars. I get it, id love to run bigger tires without spending a dime on new parts. but when it comes to crashes the bars would do more for me than the tires.

Other drivers insurance gave us $46,000 for the Ranger. She had only 7000 miles.

We wanted another and found this beauty:

Yeah right......

Drove this home instead:

I would have gone with another Ranger, maybe not the Black Widow package.
