Well, good news. I replaced the ERG recirculator valve and the truck is running fine again. Thanks again for your help finding the right thread for my problem!

That's great to hear. That valve seems to be a common problem lately and luckily it's an easy and cheap fix.
This sounds like a very common Ford problem. My son has an F150 that was showing same symptoms and throwing a code. Dealer said it was the fuel tank erg module and needed replacement. Then about 6 months later it came back. I did some looking around and saw there are 2 modules in this system. The other is in engine compartment. Dealer wanted like $125 for the part. Rockauto, 35 bucks! Slapped that one in and been running fine for the last couple of years.
