I love both trucks and cars so much, they're really just two sub-categories of my all-encompassing love for automobiles (except for the Honda Ridgeline, f**k the honda ridgeline). I find great satisfaction the raw power & utilitarian drive-over-anything ruggedness of a good truck. I also envy the quickness, steering feel and rigid cornering of a good sports car. It's not that I'm not a truck guy. To the contrary I've always loved driving trucks and SUVs and I don't intend to ever go without one. It's just that most trucks aren't "dream car" material for me, you know? It's less about the truck for me and more about what I can do with the truck.
I like exploring in the wilderness, camping, and I build mountain bike trails on the weekend. A 4x4 pickup makes doing all of those things a lot easier. It also doesn't hurt that its loaded with tech and looks good enough that I shine it up for date night. My mustang will sit and look pretty for as long as I can keep it, but my truck will rack up miles and get sold as someone's beater when I'm done with it.
For me, the Ranger gives allows me both the utility of a truck and the sportiness of a RWD sedan (to an extent that I can live with), which makes it the highest Smiles Per Gallon vehicle I've ever owned.
I will say though, that by following through with buying a (real, body-on-frame) truck, we are automatically truck guys. People who aren't truck guys would be turned off by the idea of having a truck in the first place, let alone have the enthusiasm to participate on its forums...
