You would actually be surprised on how much an All Season will beat an All Terrain in Snow. Even when rated with the 3 Peak Emblem most All Terrains do horrible in snow
If you have never driven on a true winter tire it is amazing how much an All Season sucks in snow and icy conditions.

My past experience with All Terrain tires is they are even worse than All Seasons.

With that being said. The Grabber ATx tires that came on my Tremor had the Mountain Snow Flake symbol on them. I wasn't expecting much but I figured I would give them a try before running out and getting a set of winters for the Ranger. I was pleasantly surprised, they provided good stable traction in snow and were passable on icy surfaces. I feel comfortable with them for winter use until they are worn out.

It would either be the Firestone Destination LE3 or Destination AT2. I figure the AT2 is the most streetable A/T tire. I know there are other brands, but I'm partial to firestone tires.
I had two sets of the original Destination A/T on my old Sport Trac and liked them a lot. Good in rain and snow and quiet for an A/T.

Have driven on a true snow tire, regardless the comment was pointed to All Season vs All Terrain in snoe. Not snow tire vs All Season in snow. You.must have missed that part.

In a few months, I'll be in the market for new tires. The caveat is that I will also be buying new wheels. I am very particular in the style of wheel I want, but alas, none are available in the correct offset that would negate leveling the truck. I had been dead set against having to level the truck and install aftermarket intrusion beams, but it is inevitable. So I will level it and buy the wheels I want. The wheels are 17x9 ET12 and the tires will be 265/65R17 or 265/70R17. Since my truck is RWD and would never see any offroad use, should I go to an A/T tire for the looks for the A/S for function ? How would an A/S tire look on a leveled truck ?

I really enjoy my 28mpg at 75mph and I realize the level and larger tires may affect that, so I am trying to lessen the blow by going with the 265/65, but the 265/70 would look better.

Opinions/comments ?
Those seem kind of narrow for a 9" rim. Is your tire guy in on these choices? :)

Edit: Just checked and it seems 9" is in the range for those, if on the wide end, but still suggested by most sites.

You will see an MPG hit by going wider/taller and outside the bodywork (offset increase) than stock regardless of type. A/T usually will give a larger penalty than All Season because of the added weight and rolling resistance, but you will see a measurable penalty with what you have planned. My guess will be -2-3 MPG average depending on your final tire selection.

I had these on my last Ranger and will be putting them on this one when the factory skins die. Nice highway tire and light off-road. The weight gives you great mileage and they get a long life of 70K estimated Toyo Open Country H/T II

Thank You. i had those on the F150 I traded. I put the BFG KO2’s on the new Ranger. Had them on a previous F150 and did amazing in Maine winter snow.

Didn't miss anything. Just wanted the OP to be fully informed so that he could make the best decision for himself.
