Been a while since I posted but I just had my 2021 Ranger Lariat Tremor 26K miles on it, in for service today & thought I’d share in case it helps anyone.

When I come to a stop & when I move after stopping there is a bump/clunk, no sound just feel it.

Oddest part is under 75F outside it doesn’t happen at all. Over 75-80F it happens after driving for 10-15 minute , over 90F it’s very pronounced.

Took it to the dealer today under warranty. They inspected etc & after a little bit said It’s the Slip Yoke but something about a rubber boot has to be replaced & Ford doesn’t sell that alone etc so they ordered a new driveshaft/Yoke & replace the entire thing. Won’t know if it’s on back order for a day or two but he said they see this in 1 to 3 F-150’s a month & it’s been 2-3 month backorder for those. Hopefully Rangers isn’t as long. Told me I can still drive it while waiting on parts.

Just figured I’d share in case anyone else ends up with this odd issue where ambient temperature plays a part when it happens.

It's funny that I see this today, because I was having issues with the rear end of my '22 FX4, almost like something on the rear end was loose, and it would shift around when coming to a stop, but was more prominent coming off the brakes and getting going again.

Truck goes in to have the Washer Fluid bottle looked at tomorrow morning, may drop a comment to my Service Advisor, see if they can at least look at the rear end and see what the clunk is

Yeah tell about it for sure. First time it happened I thought maybe the spare tire was loose & bumped on stop/go. After I explained it they had 4-5 ideas what it might be. I think as soon as the driveline specialist test drove it he was sure it was the slip yoke.

Well, we'll see. All I know is, I love the truck, it's already got a couple of mods, and a couple more planned, but I am just utterly frustrated that for a month old truck with a hair over 1300 miles, it is having warranty work done

There is another thread or two on this. One guy has done the lubing himself to fix it. Most all of us with the issue also note that when cold/cool it does not happen.

Yeah it sucks. I feel like it’s common now days to have warranty work so soon, but like you said the Ranger is an amazing truck & 100% happy I’m the end.

All good. Most dealers will not look at this so that fact you are getting attention is good. I may end up doing it myself, sadly :(

Yeah I’ve read many stories about dealers not being helpful.

If I had to guess the slip yoke just needs to be packed with some grease & it would be good. I don’t know why Ford deems it “Not Serviceable”. Seems like it cost them a lot more to replace it. If your handy I bet it’s not to hard to do yourself.

Mine goes in for this in a few weeks so I have been trying to replicate it in driving conditions to help me help the tech ( my main complaint is the "just got hit in the rear but nobody is behind me " at stoplights) I drive 90 % in tow mode but doubt the tech would when test driving , so I have been in D for a few days just to see (Damn that lug!!!) and the stoplight clunk is 90% gone , although I'm not sure why ? Went back to tow on my way this morning ? and clunk is back ...

I typically drive in D and it does happen to me at some stops.

Just speculation here, but I wonder if the more sudden down shift in tow mode for engine braking exacerbates the thump in the drive train.

Also is it possible that sometimes you are just feeling the extra down shift for engine braking and associating it with the thump?

My truck was in yesterday to to have the drive shaft replaced BUT the wrong driveshaft was sent to the dealer. From others have said on here the driveline is different if you have the Tremor package so Ford dealer probably ordered the wrong by mistake.

So mine did it regardless of drive mode. The only variable that caused it to happen or not was outside ambient air temperature. If it was under 70f outside it didn’t do it. Over 70f it would happen & over say 80f outside it became very pronounced.

I Don't think so , the "big clunk" is usually after the rpms are down and I'm braking and coasting , I assume its 2nd down to 1st when it clunks , but could be splines binding and releasing , or maybe both ?, it's no dealbreaker by anymeans, just annoying...
