Now here I am at 14,000' and what do I see? My buddy @MountainGoat just hanging around the top of Mt Evans.?

IMG_6515.jpg

We were hoping to see some mountain goats up there and up by the observatory there were a few hanging out with their baby ones.

Don't ask, don't tell. But to plan a trip to go see RMNP and not realize that reservations are required to get into the park. Does raise some serious questions regards intent.
So dtech.....reservations just started Memorial Day weekend. We live 45 minutes from the park and go there often. I haven't needed a reservation until now. I figured we could get in with my Military Pass without the reservation as long as we didn't go to Bear Lake....I was wrong. BTW....you only need reservations from 9am to 3pm. We were only going to do a quick drive through anyway seeing as the park is a "stirred up ant bed" during the summer.....

That sure is beautiful country! We are very lucky to have all the awesome places to travel to right here in our own back yard. Thanks

Dave what are you using for all your pictures? Nikon or cell phone? I do a lot of photography mainly scenic and was just curious. Great photos and looks like a super fantastic trip!

Mark, I'm just using my iPhone 12 pro max. I have a really nice Cannon with all the lenses but it's older and way less megapixels. I wish I had it for some of the wide angles I'm missing but other than that I think the cell has worked out. Plus I don't think I'd have any room for the camera bag especially now with all the stuff Annies bought.

We had another great day and did a little of everything today. Started out at Dead Horse Point and it doesn't take long to see the whole park if you're not hiking. Luckily Canyonlands is only 4 miles down the road so we headed there after. We were going to do this on Thursday so now we have a free day.

After that we did some off roading down to Gemini Bridges. I'll post more about that in a bit with pictures.

Here's a few from Dead Horse Point. Great scenery and there's several great hikes which we didn't do except for the one to Mesa Arch which even Annie said she's glad she did that one.

I hope you take the Dead Horse Point Road while you are in the area. Also the Shafer Trail Road.

We might be going back there on Thursday to just off road through Canyonlands. The Shafer Trail and a few others are on my list.

The potash ponds are pretty cool. Isn't that bend in the river where they filmed Thelma and Louise?

Canyonlands has several overlooks throughout the park. It's similar to Dead Horse Point with the scenery.

This was the trail going up to Upheaval Dome. I was surprised Annie made it all the way but even she said it was worth it as you'll never get a chance to see this again.

Hi Dave,

I am happy you and Annie had time in Canyonlands. Margie and I did most of this over 3 days dedicated to this park after 3 days at Arches. Bucket list for sure. Way cool!l

Thanks Brian! We're running on very little sleep but we're having a blast doing it. I'll sleep for a week once we're home. lol

After County Road 142 passes the ponds, the first time the road nears the river, there is a large open area. This is the Thelma and Louise Point. There are no signs. County Road 142 turns into the Shafer Trail.
