Reason for the post: What do you guys have that is a toy/project/build that isn't a Ranger?

Mine: or the plan now that I've cleared some of the driveway.

I like to make weird things go fast. I was honestly shocked when I found out how quick a Ranger was stock. Might be why it jumped ahead of others on my list when the Maverick stalled and my daily broke. It isn't a race car but I'd never expect any version to crack into the high 14s stock or go like hell with a simple tune. Anyway, I want the Ranger to last so I won't bring it down the 1/4 mile. It will pull what I am building so I don't have to pay when I break it being a moron.

Background. I spent some time in Korea and my first new car ever was a Hyundai. So no issues with the wtf is wrong with you replies. I get it.. people hate them even when most of the hate started with Mitz and ended up with the American plant skipping a step on the engine casting. Anyway, I like the cars and have most of my experience under a Korean hood. Also, helped many people do stupid stuff to them and I ran nitrous on an Elantra (didn't break it)/then modified a genesis later on (also didn't break it just made it a pita to daily). Loved both but they were donated to charity then the other traded for a daily when my commute turned into an hour each way if not more.

What is coming next as I have the parts car (just need to get the car dolly to bring it home) that already had the swap but has sat for years in grass.. so many things are rotted away and the owner tried to turn it into a truck (I'll get pics asap on that..). But it had the mounts etc that I need. Along with spare stuff in general that doesn't go bad sitting around.

2001/2 (looking for one with a good body but bad engine or trans) Hyundai Accent LC1

2.0 "Beta" 2 Motor (stock is the 1.6 "Alpha" 3)

Elantra XD (01 to 05?) trans (better gearing for boost IMO)

TD05-20g (or 16 or 18 depending on what get my hands on but pretty set on the hot side)

And all the supporting fuel, safety, suspension, etc mods to go with it.

Thanks to being able to share some parts with the Mitz Eclipse turbo (fuel pump etc). Should be able to get 400hp on it relatively cheap.

I'd be happy with 350 wheel in a car that will weight around 2200 pds (fully fueled etc) when complete.

Just can't shift into 5th under boost if I want to keep that gear....... That is an issue others have learned. Crank etc seem to be good up to around 400 wheel. If not. Engine and trans are cheeeeap.

My old DD. Going full ham and convert to a dedicated track car.

2013 FRS full bolt ons, flex fuel, suspension work, flat bottom, soon to be front splitter and other aero, and full striped interior.

One of the reasons I bought my Ranger was for hauling car parts or towing my project car, a 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible. Last fall, I bought an old Cherokee for my son and fixed it up, and now I have been doing mods on the Ranger rather than working on the Olds. I will get back to the Olds soon enough, though.

With all the money spent on Ranger mods does anyone have any resources left for a project car?

I'm fighting the urge to buy a toy or project car. I've had many Mustangs. I just picked up 2 John Deere garden tractors an over the winter I plan on restoring the 316.

I'm always changing stuff on my Harley Street Glide.

Hi Mark,

Right now I am in maintenance mode on the black water system. Installing brass bullet catches in place of the worn out black plastic catches on the drawers and doors. Installing an Aux air conditioner in the roof to augment the basement air... Making new cabinet doors for the vinyl covered doors on some of the Lesser cabinet doors that are showing wear... Cleaning the Turbo Intercooler/rear radiator to keep the motor cool. Augmenting the indirect mood lighting. Washing the bugs off the front of the coach.

Drinking beer....

Best,
Phil

Wow, Phil, that’s a lot of projects. My favorite is the “drinking beer” project.
