Please bear in mind, this is only a scale prototype solution to the very valid tracking concerns. I have also worked with Reynolds who has agreed to cosponsor the work on a full sized prototype with full scale production to begin in the fall.

The great thing is that this will also work well as a bed cover, bug deflector and radio signal enhancer!

I am very enthusiastic as this is a pretty sexy solution! ?

Yesterday, a motorcyclist blew by me like I was standing still in a 40 MPH zone. Oh, I forgot to mention, there was another vehicle driving right beside me in the other lane. Idiots like that need to be controlled by technology. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less if he kills himself, I just don't want to be the one he hits and ruins my day also.

I think Ford is doing on their own before it's mandated by the Gov. so that they can say they did it first. A couple of months the was news about congress mandating that manufacturers implement a system to stop DUI's.

Get over it!

While it is factual, that gun deaths have surpassed vehicle deaths per annum, the number killed and maimed in vehicle crashes is way higher than a civilized society should put up with.
Not to turn this into a gun debate, BUT...about 54% of gun deaths are suicides.

I have mixed emotions regarding the internet of things as it pertains to using this capability to "police" our citizens.

I live at the corner of a couple of two lane roads. Both are relatively low traffic roads heading downhill as they approach the intersection our land is on. People always are traveling at least 2x the speed limit of each road as they approach the intersection (one is semi blind). There are no sidewalks and kids walk along both roads getting to and from the school bus, as well as cross the street. So far, no kids have gotten hit, just deer, but I fear it is only a matter of time.

Something that forced these otherwise good people to do the right thing when they were behind the wheel might not be all bad.

One would think that Ford would want you to speed so that they could sell more trucks and parts when you wreck. Maybe it is just a public facing thing to keep them from being sued for making vehicles that are capable of going over the speed limit.
Actually, Ford wants you to RENT, oh cough-cough, lease their vehicles.
So that way you're always returning every two to three years looking for a new replacement when the contract is up.

Purchasing, to them, is out-dated business model and we are unpredictable when it comes time for a replacement or addition.

Plus, everyone that "signed-up" for the lifetime-wifi and got the Ford Bonus-Bucks promo...

You are already being monitored by Ford and they are tracking you. It said so in the fine-print...
It claims "on-occasion" or "randomly". What length of time or period is "on-occasion" or "randomly".

I checked off "customer-denied" offer. But I bet they are still tracking me too.

It will take "big-brother" to actually monitor what Ford is doing...
Ford apparently is looking at the cost of doing business versus fine/penalties.
So far, they have been handed "fines" this year already and compared to their revenue is "chump-change".
To them, it's the cost of doing business...

and they "sell" a vehicle twice.
once new, then again when you return it as a used vehicle.
I'm sure if someone did the math, they make a bigger profit this way.
Yup,

I bought two new Fords way-back in 2004... GREAT deals that I was willing to "man-up" on the costs.
Went eight years later, bought a new Ford in 2012. Same thing, got a great deal & wanted to "trade-up" sorta speak.
It wasn't until 2017 they got my money again.
Then in late 2019, I had an unbelievable offer for my 2019 Ranger that I couldn't pass up. I didn't need the Ranger at all but wasn't passing up a great deal.
With the market the way it is today, I'm so glad my decision was a good one.

If these are the lengths we as a society have to take to make the road a safer place, then I guess that's what we have to do.
Wow some fully programmed people in this thread. "If it keeps us safe™ I suppose I'll give up my ability to drive myself." I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore.

Sorry, but that does not make sense in regard to this thread. There is already laws that regulate speed limits. Those laws are already enforced. There are 100s, maybe thousands of laws that are there for the safety of others.
I wonder how you would feel if some idiot drove too fast and killed one of your loved ones. Or if you killed someone elses loved one due to your speeding. Yeah, he could say it is for his freedom that he sped and killed your loved one....

The seven words you never want to hear, "We're the Government, we're here to help". It looks like now we may have to add Fords name to that. I can't imagine trying to do the speed limit anywhere on I-95. You gonna get mushed...................

There are two different arguments being made here. One is the ability to perform an action (drive a vehicle without big brother/AI control). The other is a consequence to performing an action (insert any law violation).

I worked with a guy who insisted as long as you were going the posted speed limit, you were perfectly fine staying in the far left lane on a freeway, regardless of how many people were stacked up behind you.

Tragically, he was killed driving through an intersection on his motorcycle. Witnesses said he had the green light but seemed to ignore the guy who ran the red light and broadsided him.

It retrospect, it always seemed like his mindset about driving might have been a problem.

It's a state of emergency! Due to supply issues gasoline powered vehicles have been reduced to 55mph to ease consumption and save the planet! (Watches Teslas fly by doing 90 from the slow lane, gets home just as the brownouts start and so can't cook my soy and bug souffle.)
I'm old, and remember when this was a reality. Damn, it took a while to get to my sisters house in Hollywood, Florida from North Carolina. :)
