And the ID… I love the AZDOT digital license in Apple wallet
Me too! You can also download the AZ Mobile ID app and add it there too. I like that one better as you scan you license into it and it has the front, back and bar code there.

Real time location data available to the government and access to vehicle data? That's not happening, and not lawful without a warrant.

They started real ID in Mass now. No passport at airport or multiple ID’s. PIA to get it though!

In probably another 10 - 15 years you will no longer be driving your vehicle. You will just be a passenger that inputs your destination. The vehicle will do the rest. Then you will be just along for the ride with your travel data tracked whether you like it or not.

Edit: Just like around 15 years ago when you thought your cell phone was just something convenient to make calls and text. Now I bet most of us here are hooked on using smart phones and rely on them for more than just making calls and texting (Example how we have been convinced to use Ford Pass). Slowly but surely as technology advances we are trained to not only use it but depend on it. So it sadly makes sense that our vehicles are next. Not that I like it. I'm a huge advocate for digital privacy. But unfortunately we may not have a choice if we want to own new vehicles.

All this technology is very convenient but it also opens up a lot of avenues, be it the government or certain individuals they can look over someones shoulder and we wouldn’t even know it. Anything can be hacked or controlled we can be told it is in our best interest. I work for the county I see the insanity that is in our departments, would you like the government to be able to have that kind of control? I just hope I can go through retirement and fly under the radar and not get tied up in too much of this crazy shit that is going on.

The digital world is upon us and there's no stopping it now. AZ was the first state to have a digital drivers license added to the app and to your Apple Wallet. You just scan your original ID and it's now with you on your phone at all times. I actually kind of like this because I don't always carry my wallet and when I had the Jeep I could jump in knowing my ID was with me at all times. I think they just added MI recently.
Wonder if there is an android option for this. I'm fairly new to AZ but this sounds cool.

If lives are saved, its the direction things will go. Like it or not.
If manufacturers want government bailouts, or support, they're in the governments pocket and follow their mandate like good children.
But isnt this topic is very borderline on politics?
The quoted text on the thread itself refers to the government numerous times. We can't talk politics or has that changed?
Ford was the only one that did not need or take the bailout. At least that's what I recall.

I never carry a wallet I usually leave it in my truck plus I usually use a money clip. So when I was going between 2 different vehicles I'd tend to forget my wallet in the truck but at least I have my ID on my phone. Sometimes it was just doing an estimate where I had no need for my wallet but use my phone for the gps.
I intentionally missed the smartphone revolution so I am somewhat ignorant to the minutia, but I understand the broad strokes of the technology. Coming from I/T HW & SW design, and having a wife in I/T security we chose privacy over convenience.

I finally just purchased a Purism Librem 5 Linux (debian based) based smartphone. It has HW kill switches for WIFi, Bluetooth, cellular signal, microphone and camera. The OS and all SW is opensource as is the hardware. No back doors. Still playing with it before putting it in production.

We have credit cards, but still use cash for most things locally due to privacy issues. We prefer as small I/T footprint as possible... over convenience. We know that we are swimming against the technology current, but we consider it very important.

Forgive my lack of understanding.

No problem at all! :like:

I'm just starting to get more comfortable with adding things like ID's and credit cards to my Apple wallet. It is convenient but you're right it's risky too and leaves a huge digital footprint. But it seems like almost everything you do today leaves one with cameras everywhere and gps in your vehicles and phones. I do have all my credit reports locked and notifications set up on my credit card and all bank accounts. So ANY transactions that happen I get an email and a text.

I've worked construction my whole life and always hated carrying a wallet as it was to cumbersome. It would get stuff with junk (like George Costanza ?) and give me a back ache. lol SO I've always done the opposite where I carry very little cash, pay everything with a credit card, rack up the points and pay it in full every month. Plus it's easier for me to separate personal and business expenses this way.

I'm sure there is just check the play store for AZ Mobile ID. There's an app from the state where you can scan your license right into it. They verify it and you're good to go.

AS soon as there will be enough autonomous vehicles, you'll lose the right to drive.
They will increase your insurance because you will be a danger to others on the road,
because you have control...
a dystopian future for sure.

I work for the government. We can't keep track of our own people worth a damn; including those that go into a war zone. Also, our IT people are idiots. I wouldn't worry about them being able to do much with this right now. The insurance companies are already ahead of that game by getting people to plug those trackers in voluntarily for a cheaper rate.....

I fear that the day will come when the realization that "Privacy = Freedom" will resonate with the population... after it is too late to do anything about it. "If they can, They will."

I designed and built both HW and SW Neural Network AI engines in the mid 1980's, and implemented them in test case smart homes (and in Banks where the AI quickly eclipsed the Loan Officers success loan approval rates) at IBM Service Research. We ran the loan data from the bank records through the AI engine. It went from a blank slate to a 80% gain in forecasting who would default on loan in less than 24 hours. The AI could see and correlate patterns that none of us or the bank employees could see. It learned at an incredible rate. This was ~40 years ago!

We saw the future way back then. We contemplated the ramifications... all of them.

And everything we saw is coming along according to plan as technology allows it.

None of this is an accident. Smartphones (HW & SW) are carefully constructed to maximize face time. They woo you with convenience, and monitor and control you without your knowledge or understanding. If you think that you are in control of your decision making, I assure you that you are not. There are highly sophisticated AI algos at work that know you better than you know you.

You don't believe me? Simply look around you in any location and count the people transfixed on a 3x6 screen to the exclusion of the real world. It is almost as if the phone is glued to their hands. They can no longer psychologically do without the device.

The device HW & SW is designed to be addictive. This is our reality. Surveillance Capitalism is real and is being morphed and spreading into all aspects of our society.

The merging of BIo tech, Nano tech, and Computer Tech has and is occurring. The ramifications are incredible in scope.

I love and use technology. I endeavor not to allow it to use me.

I hope that I am not boring anyone, Sometimes I talk too much. I am jumping off my soapbox.... back to my trusty Ranger topics.
