Hi guys,
I am having an airflow issue in my Ranger and I want to see if anybody else has the same issue.

(1) When I select the icon that sends air to regular vents, I get good airflow out of the main vents (see photo #1).

(2) When i select the icon that sends air to my feet only, I get air down there but not as much as I would like (see photo #2). It's not like it's the same amount of air as in #1 just redirected to the floor.

(3) Finally, when I select BOTH icons at the same time (see photo #3), which would split the air between the upper and the floor, I can hear more air noise near the front of the dash but I get virtually NO AIRFLOW from either the main vents or the floor vents. It's like it is almost completely blocked.

Anybody else experience this?

Please note that I have the fan control turned to maximum for each of the three cases above.

I have no issues at all my air blows just fine and here lately I've been leaving it set on auto.

I don’t have that particular issue but I am not thrilled with the overall air conditioning so far. It is decent on max but feels like a fan on regular.

I believe unless you press the A/C button it is just a fan. Max A/C turns it on. At least that is my understanding and how I've noticed it to work.

You don't need Max A/C, but you do need the A/C light to be on.

Right - I stated it poorly. I had assumed that if you had "auto" turned on, it would automatically turn on the A/C if needed, but it does not appear to do that. It only turns on the A/C if the A/C button is on, or if you push Max A/C.

I actually really like this compared to previous systems I've had that would run the ac for no reason if left in auto. On the ranger it will run heat if it's cold in the morning or switch to vent when it warms up but I can turn off ac if just the vent is enough.

Yeah, I think that's a very nice way to go in a truck.

If you run it using recirculated air it is much cooling than running it using outside air.

Yes, mine was like that as well.....only the front passenger side worked. Crazy you brought this up because I was about to go to the dealer this afternoon & before I left I went to check it again. This time I heard a little thud & now all of them work. I'll wait & see if it continues to work before I let them tear it apart looking for an issue.

Hi,

Does this operation agree with the owners manual? It may be a misunderstanding of how the HVAC system operates vs what you expect. My Ranger operates just the same as my 2016 MKX does, so I did not read the owners manual for my Ranger in this regard. Will have to pull out my owner's manual and review...I have found a few errors in other subjects in the owners manual that are puzzling to me. I had responsibility for the sign off of the owner's manual and found many mistakes in the first draft for a particular model year...for example...There was never a front wheel drive Ranger, but it was in one of the drafts...In this day of cut and paste, and people doing it have no knowledge of the vehicle results in mistakes if the person with sign off responsibility does not actually read the manual page for page.

I wish mine would make a little thud. The airflow is SO pitiful. I have not had a chance to take it in yet but I will soon. I'll report back.

Hi,

I was out in my Ranger last evening, having picked up one of my Ford Racing crew chiefs from our Off Road Racing days and his wife. Ambient was 105°F. We rode cool as cucumbers. What may seem confusing it that the sound of air rushing is not heard like the old Ranger...It still cools well, but the sound is not a prevalent. That said..It is still a good idea to get it checked out by the dealer.
