The Key word in this statement is GM... I think at this point it's fairly safe to say their workers were/are more interested in getting drunk and eating chicken fingers than building vehicles....
This is exactly why I am a Ford person!

I prefer not to own a vehicle in which body hardware components routinely fail after 2 years of ownership.

Just ask my brother in law who has had interior door release and tailgate handles fall apart in his hands on his '19 Silverado...just don't get him started on the truck's HVAC controls.

Or my cousin, who's '20 Ram which has spent approximately 70% of it's life at the dealership for them to exorcise the electrical system demons out of it.

These threads always gets me needing to go and check my truck to see if I missing anything (like the third set of tie downs, and glove box damper and light). And you know what - damn it I got ripped off at the factory too by Ford. I thought I was buying a Raptor but they replaced it with a XLT parts. Damn it! Is this a warranty issue then. ?

on a more serious note - but not really. Here is some classic “quality is job 1” from Hot Wheels circa 1977. (Yes this was from when I was a kid and for some reason it never got destroyed)

Sounds about right... but the dealer is Ford, so they should handle it in house.

When Ford tried to renege on my early buyer's bonus, the dealer wanted the extra $750 on delivery.
Fortunately, I had a signed contract with a "balance due on delivery" amount and the dealer's signature.
The dealer claimed that it wasn't his fault, it was Ford's so they wanted paid the extra money.
I pointed out the window at the giant blue Ford Oval out front and said ... "a sensible person would think that you are Ford." At least you represent them.
To the buyer, the dealer is Ford , so is the factory, marketing, logistics, etc.

Is that supposed to be punny?

thats if Ford made the mistake.
I still believe it was damaged at the first dealer by their response. half assed repaired, and hoped no one would notice.
Or this…..

Lot boy climbs in passenger rear to clean - makes his way to driver’s side - opens door to get out - doesn’t see the (name your object here…pressure washer, tire machine, trash can) - messes up the door - bad - really bad - and no, it won’t buff right out.

Manager says: “WTF? The owner’s gonna be here in an hour - get this thing over to the body shop and tell them to swap doors with the XLT that just came in - we’ll put the repaired door on the XLT after.”

I would look for witness marks on the hinges and door jamb. I don‘t know how different interior trim might be from XLT vs Lariat or Tremor vs non-Tremor, but if they are, I’d make sure all the interior door trim matches passenger side to driver’s side. I wonder if the door speakers would be different/missing a Bose logo.

I can certainly relate to this...

Got tasked with installing a FoMoCo luggage rack on a new, already owned Zephyr wagon.

Made a very stupid mistake of assuming there was 5 skid rails to be attached to the roof, when there was just 4! I had already drilled the holes in the roof, assuming there was a center rail.

Off to the dealerships body shop it went to fix my blunder...

How in the world did you not notice this when you looked it over on delivery day?

Absolutely pathetic that any customer paying the $$ we are these days has to put up with this bullshit. Hope they “Ford, the dealer..etc” take care of this.

My dad once threatened to drive a car through the front window of a Chrysler dealer back in the 70’s after his third trip back to have the speedo fixed on a brand new Charger. It actually stopped working on the ride home.

He was a pretty mean dude when he wanted to be and they could see in his eyes he meant it. They fixed it that day and the man that owned the dealership went on the test drive with us to make sure it was right.:like:

If that was here, the door from an XLT would have had a chrome handle, and chrome internal pulls. Otherwise the same.

Hi Rick,

Most times that things like this happen is when the relief guy has to stand in on the trim line when the line operator needs to go to the bathroom, is on break etc. No excuse for this however.

Best,
Phil
It could have been the parts bin was out of shiny black ones and better to install a wrong handle than no handle but still..... Former GM assembler with 16 different work stations over 13 months term covering leave of absence, sick day in the place of regular assembler etc.

I think Phil can attest to this:

It is my understanding that when a vehicle comes down the line for trim fitting, the part that is in a particular bin is going onto that car no matter what...

This would explain why that Monarch sedan I saw had the wrong color dashboard installed.

It does not explain, however, why the proper color dash was found lounging in the trunk!
I think you got it right.

The 2019 and 2020 Lariats had paint matched tailgate handles. 2021’s were not painted anymore, but still had key holes. Looks like 2022’s they have eliminated the key hole but they were not really ever used anyway with power lock/unlock feature. I have an XLT and have never used the tailgate key to unlock. Always used the power button. No key hole looks cleaner IMO.
