EDIT: Ranger 1, Tacoma 0

Hey all...Tacoma owner here, seriously considering trading out to a Ranger. My main issue is how unpleasant it is to drive out highway speeds. The constant gear searching and redlining is exhausting. Being the Ranger has a good amount more torque, it has me intrigued. Looking for Ranger owners thoughts on how these trucks do cruising at 70+.

Thanks in advance.

I have 3,000 miles on mine. RPM at 70 is 2,000. This is effortless as mentioned before. Never seen anything close to a redline on this truck. The transmission is awesome.

I only drive over 70 (closer to 80) on the highways. I took my Ranger for a spin to show it off this weekend. It went over a pass leading the pack. My biggest concern is getting a speeding ticket because there is a lot of power tucked inside the 4 banger.

Even pulling 2000 lbs the rpm seldom reaches 2200 rpm. Hardly know its back there . The transmission is well synchronized with engine.

That’s very good to hear. Being in Texas, 70+ is the norm everywhere over long distances. The Tacoma drop gears and bump the rpm’s in the 3 to 4K range just to keep. And lord help you if you have a head wind.

Former Tacoma owner here. Traded a 2017 TRD OR Access Cab Tacoma for my new Ranger Lariat! All I can say is, "Why didn't they have this when I bought the Taco"?!! Great ride, Great Truck, and when I put it in Sport Mode.... WOW!!!

Yep - I drove my friend in it yesterday and he kept commenting on how quiet it was. When I floored it, I will quote him:
Holy Shit!
:)

He was amazed at what a 2.3 liter turbo was capable of. I still am!

Yeah, I have to be careful too. It is easy to get up to 75 or 80, even in a 60 zone. It is so smooth and quiet it just kind of sneaks up there....

Yep, that’s why I dressed up the tailgate. I want folks to know it’s a Ranger passing them by.

Yes. I've had the exact same experience . The Ranger is so smooth, quiet, and effortless to get up to speed compared to the Tacoma.

Sold my Tacoma for a Ranger, night and day. Tacoma was capable, the Ranger is enjoyable. Better in just about every way. The only important exception is the rear seat configuration was better in the Tacoma. I'm a daily driver, not an off-roader.

From one Texan to another, you will love the Ranger!

I've taken mine on a few road trips between College Station and the Dallas area. The Ranger is fun to drive. Effortless as others already stated is a good description. On the last trip, my daughter was following me in her car on the trip home for the summer. She actually scolded me and told me to slow down getting on the highway because she could not keep up (the Ranger was full of her dorm stuff covered tightly with a tarp).

And, the Ranger is a lot more comfortable on the inside than the Tacoma, in my opinion.

Just got back from a trip from NJ to NC towing my 2000+ lb boat.

I will not say that this trucks tows just as good as my 2011 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost but it is remarkably close. Getting up to speed on entrance ramps and was able to cruise at 70 mph with ease. Even passing was effortless. To say I was impressed is an understatement.
