Tires and material are designed in Finland but 85% of the production is in Russia. If the percentage would have been ~20% I'd bet they'd canned the production there already. Takes years to build the new plants to move the production out so they are pretty quiet about the fact.

Here's from the financial report:

  • The tire plants are located in Nokia, Finland, in Vsevolozhsk, Russia and in Dayton, Tennessee, the USA
  • In 2021, 82% (87%) of passenger car tires (pcs) were manufactured in Russia
Wow didn't know so much of their production was done in Russia. No more Nokian's for me.

Sucks, since they have the best dedicated winter tires and very good all terrain options.

I think that’s almost impossible. I recently exhaustively searched for SL (p) tires in 265/70/17, with weight as a big criteria. About the lightest I could find were the Cooper AT3’s at 43lbs for the S rated tire. The think the SL Hankooks in 265/70 were 40 lbs.
When I was tire shopping tire weight was a big factor in my search. I ended up going with 265-70-17 Nitto terra grapplers G2's an their weight was listed as 41 pounds. The stock BFG's that came were listed on tire rack at 34 pounds each. A lot of the P rated in my size were well over 40 pounds an LT's were usually well over 50.

Sucks, since they have the best dedicated winter tires and very good all terrain options.
That's because they're used to building tires for the eastern front.

All,

I did some follow up work to find out the ground truth on this tire. Not the outcome I was hoping for, but at least now we know:

"Hello again,
I just confirmed with my warehouse that this tire, P265/70 R 17 Outpost, does weight 43 lbs, not 30.9

I have made the appropriate departments aware and they are working on fixing it as we speak.

Thank you so much for not letting this one go as you were correct and now going forward we will have correct weights in our database.

Thank you,

Renee Munn

On a side note, Renee was very courteous and helpful. Nice to see that something like this (quality customer service) still happens in this day and age.

Thats still a reasonably light 265/70, but there are a lot of tried and tested tires in that weight class that I would go for first.

True. The one I'm most leaning towards at the moment is the Toyo Open Country AT3. At 39 lbs (P/SL tire, mind you) for a 265/70r17, that's pretty good. Added to that, Toyo is a pretty solid brand, with a fair amount of proven off road history.

I had Toyo’s on my last Ranger. Will seriously consider them again when the need for new ones on this Ranger happen.

Russian tires? No thank you.

And that is before the invasion.
