As I’ve been modding my truck, I’ve been looking for a lightweight AT tire that doesn’t look like a street tire and won’t break the bank. To be clear I don’t off-road but I do like an aggressive AT tire on my ride. I really had no need for a C-rated tire. While I like the looks of the Toyo’s, I had a bad sidewall experience with the tire and have been hesitant to give it another try.

While doing some searching on the interwebz, I came across a Toyota Tacoma forum (yea, I know) going on about the Maxxis Razr AT tires. I gave it a read and was impressed with the positive reviews. It seems our Ranger brothers in Australia are really impressed with this tire as well. It appeared to check all of the boxes that I was looking for: Lightweight (P-metric is 43-lbs.), good wet traction, good in snow and slush (3 peak rated), and good road manners. Reviews were mixed as far as noise: some reviews say it’s quieter than the BFG KO2, other reviews state that it’s slightly louder. The only (potential) negative for me was that the tire is not manufactured in the U.S.

I’ve also wanted to upsize to a 285 and have done the preliminary work to make that happen: I installed a Ford Ranger Lift 1” level and ReadyLift anti-intrusion beams.

So, long story short, I pulled the trigger and ordered a set of P285/70R17 Maxxis Razr AT-811 tires and had them installed. Max pressure on the tire is 44-psi. I’m currently running them at 40-psi but will likely adjust the pressure down to 35-psi. So far I’ve put about 500-miles on them. They seem to ride well and are on par with the BFG KO2’s I took off as far as road noise. Surprisingly I didn’t lose much in the way of mileage. Maybe a loss of 1-mpg so far (we’ll see how it goes :fingerscrossed:). With the weather in Iowa forecasted for this week, I’ll probably get to experience wet driving conditions, hopefully not snow:rolleyes:. Photos posted because if it’s not documented it didn’t happen…

they look sharp! I have never used maxxis but they have a warehouse near me and seem to be busy 24/7 so they must be popular. I see them on a lot of jeeps and SxS / ATV.

Aggressive as get out but Bridgestone's budget brand Primewell had an insanely cheap MT/AT that was aggressive looking if I remember it was the Primewell PA100 or something like that. Probably one of the most worthless so called ATs on the market, one inch of snow and you went nowhere and worse in mud. I see it has the three peak mountain and snowflake so those Maxxis ATs may be a good tire, if I recall Maxxis is the budget brand of Cooper or something like that. I may be wrong on that though.
