DI pump noise is mostly the crash bracket

I finally got bored enough and fed up enough to screw around with the DI pump, I have been looking closely at the pump and it's crash bracket, I started to wonder if the bracket was acting like a amplifier for the mechanical noise.

So I started by pulling the crash bracket (wait, please don't jump on telling me that if I crash hard enough to knock the pump off the engine I will burn) the bracket is easy enough to remove, it does have a odd cast iron L shaped bracket that looks like a afterthought, but once removed it does retain the foam insulator.

So, I thought that I should be able to AV mount the bracket, it would take some modification due to how it's designed, then I thought "do I really want to modify it? it might not make any difference" then I thought I should drive it to see if my theory about the bracket was correct.

It was, the pump is much quieter without the bracket, still makes noise but lacks the buzzy sound, now it sounds like a deeper mechanical noise, much nicer to listen to, so now, I have to decide if I just slap it back on and be happy, or if I go and AV mount it and maybe improve the insulation some.

Either way, I do not recommend anybody drive around without the protection of the bracket, and I'm probably the only person bugged enough by it to get as far as I have.

So this whole exercise falls into the category of retired engine guy, bugged by a normal engine noise, starts taking things apart, boy that sure looks stupid when I read it.

You need a louder muffler …

True, but having been a engine guy for so long, I tune in on engine noises, even if they are normal.
I was originally convinced it was more than DI noise, then I drove my sons 2019 Ranger, I was glad it was normal, plus the dealer also told me it's normal, but who believes them ?
